Calliandra Angustifolia - Bobinsana: Harmalas?

Hello Nexus,

I haven't been able to find a lot of infos online about Calliandra Angustifolia/Bobinsana's harmala alkaloids content.

I have read that it is rumored to contain mainly Tetrahydroharmine and other harmala alkaloids and that in Peru it is used as a tonic/stimulant and as a lucid dream enhancer, being one of the most important master plants used by vegetalistas.

Having some of this plant's bark shavings on hand I tried to boil 18 grams of it in some distilled water to test it.

My initial plan was that of drinking the tea but after sipping three/four swigs of it, I experienced a purge similar to aya, dry heaving air for a pair of times. Some think it must have been the high tannin content, others think that the plant spirit manifested in this way.

In fact the small purge felt relieving but I wasn't intentioned in drinking any more of it so I thought that instead of tossing it I could try to extract it.

So I filtered the brew, leaving a clear red tea, reduced it to 250/300 ml, acidified it with a coffee cup of 6% vinegar, warmed some more water, added sodium carbonate till saturation, filtered it and added it to the acidified brew.
The color change was instant, from red to black, but nothing seemed to precipitate. My next thought was that of adding some salt, to maximize the ionic strength of the solution.
Warmed some more water, saturated it with sodium carbonate, added salt, stirred until dissolution, filtered and added to the brew...

Nothing happened.

So instead of tossing it I shove it in the fridge and after a few hours to my surprise something had settled to the bottom of the jar, in a similar way to a rue extraction.

Now I've siphoned off the majority of the liquid, leaving the precipitate and a little water.

I think the next step will be to redissolve it in a minimal amount of acidic water and re-basing, hoping that it will precipitate something cleaner as for now the precipitate is reddish, more than a rue extract.

I think I should find some TLC test kits and learn how to use them.

Cool!!!
