Title is self explanatory

SWIM is interested in extracting DMT via straight to base from MHRB.

SWIM has 99% ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL (IPA)and would like to use it as their Non polar Solvent (instead of Naphtha).

Will this work?

No.

IPA is miscible with water so SWIY'll not see any layers separating.

(actually however in a high ionic strength solution like the STB one, some layer separation will happen; it is going to be a layer of IPA with a bit of water and NaOH and all sort of crap floating on top of the Basified soup. Dead End)

Get yersel' some naphtha!

White spirits from B&Q works just fine as a naptha substitute, just don't bother evapping 75% as you will be waiting for weeks, just pop straight into the freezer then once crystals have formed discard the white spirits and plate the crystals in a pyrex dish and leave to evap, will take 2-3 days until there is no smell of white spirits left and the crystals are fully dried, then you have savour the fruits of your labour :d

Thanks. SWIM was using Zippo lighter fluid before, and it was quite expensive.

SWIM thought White spirit left bad residues or something when evaporated and as a result had dismissed it before.

But if it works that's great, SWIM has already got white spirits at home, so SWIM WILL GET EXTRACTING :d :d
 
There are smome white spirits in europe that are a mix of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, which means you might have things like xylene in there, so freeze precipitation might not work as dmt is too soluble in aromatics even at freeze temperatures.. also, if this is indeed the case, it will also pull some 'other' alkaloids (research 'jungle spice') that are not just dmt, so your product might not crystalize but rather be oily/waxy and red/orange

I would recommend redissolving in (non denatured) alcohol or acetone after evapping this solvent, to make sure residual traces of the aromatics evaporate
 
Yeah, definitely look on the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) of your naphtha/white spirit (it can be found online) to make sure you don't have things that will interfere with the extraction.
 
SWIM wouldn't recommend White spirits, its a very heavy solvent and will take a long time to evaporate :(

However if it is money/availability SWIY is worrying about in not buying Perma/Zippo/Ronson lighter fluid, SWIM would recommend white spirits as it is a very cheap and easy to attain solvent.

VM and P naptha from any hardware store, you get like a liter and a half for 10 bucks, more pure than lighter fluid and cheaper.
 
He's from the UK, things are different in the UK, in the local hardware stores there is no VM & P or an equivalent, they only sell white spirits which is a very heavy solvent and takes aegis to evaporate.:cry:

However some ebay dealers sell lighter fluid at good prices.


6x 133ml Ronson cans fro £11 seems to SWIM like a good deal :) (not as good as 1 1/2 litres for $10)

Living in the UK can be so fustrating, when in America it all seems so easy to find stuff cheap. :?
