hi i have been looking into dmt for some months now and still cant decide if the 30ft Acacia melanoxylon growing on my property is worth trying extract from this tree? it's very healthy and how much can i remove from the tree without killing it (its a nice tree)
DMT in the bark and leaf, less than 0.02% total alkaloids (Hegnauer 1994)
So you can, but there is hardly any in there so it might be worth leaving the 30ft tree alone and finding another source. Here is a thread that might interest swiy Alkaloids in Acacia melanoxylon (Blackwood)???

If it was in my yard I would harvest some small twig like branches and try a extraction on the twigs bark saving the leaves to possibly extract later if the twig bark yeilds any thing worth wile. I am not desputing the .02 DMT content referance but I would be curious if the tree was in my yard.
If you do decide to harvest some prune the branches so they will create more small branches. Then harvest the small twig like branches and maybe a large branch now and then but prune it to produce more small branches.
Do not harvest bark off the main trunk wile it will not kill the tree in its self it leaves a open wound to encourage fungi to rot the tree. They make a commercial spray to prevent rot in plant wounds but since you are extracting you can not consider its use.
You could also root some small branches to make new trees. It may take years to get a good amount from the tree but its in you yard so its easy.
Let us know your results if you do try it just use a test amount dont strip the tree for the experiment. There are a few good teks for this tree here on site.
