Check whats in this pH up stuff. The stuff you want is sodium hydroxide (commonly sold as lye). If its any weird additives it wouldn't be recommended at all especially dyes.

I wouldn't. NaOH is what you need. 99%+ Calcium Hydroxide will also work (for an A/B only) and that can be purchased at any fish store as an additive for saltwater reef tanks.

as far as i'm aware pH up is mostly potassium hydroxide which is fine (some people even prefer it - especially for mesc extractions as it seems to reduce emulsions)
