Can you use an alternate solvent for BLAB

Hi, a bum I know ordered some D-limo, but it hasn't arrived and he is almost ready to start making his pulls on a pound of MHRB. He was wondering if in lieu of the D-limo, he could use xylene instead. Would xylene still be suitable for doing a FASIPA crystallization?

Xylene is possible to use as a solvent, sure. Dont do FASI(PA) though, better FASA.

Personally I hate working with xylene, it stinks horribly, but its def possible and dissolves dmt well.

Traveler, he does have some naptha on hand, but wanted to extract a more full spectrum spice which is why he was looking at D-limo and xylene.

endlessness, thats a good heads up on xylene, endlessness, he can handle naptha, but xylene sounds not too fun to work with. He will try to track down some d-limo, or wait for his new shipment to come.
Also, endlessness, I wanted to thank you for being so helpful to a new comer like myself, so far every post I have made you have responded back with a very helpful post, I appreciate this greatly.

As an additional question, do you know the scientific reason why FASIPA works with d-limo and FASA needs to be used with xylene? My initial guess is it has to do with mutual miscibility, but thats just a wild guess.

Yeah if you can wait for limo I would recommend, its a very nice solvent to work with IMO.

Glad to be of help, friend You know when I first came to the nexus years ago I was also greatly helped, and my life has changed for better with the regular contact with the community, so the least I can do is try to give some good vibes and some of that help back, and aid responsible people to have more autonomy in their psychedelic path

Regarding FASI / FASA, Im not exactly sure why. Both acetone and IPA will mix with xylene and limonene, and dmt fumarates arent really soluble in either, so I cant wrap my head around why it wouldnt work. But I know that before people tried FASI in limonene, they had tried FASA and it didnt really work, hence why FASI was discovered. To be honest I personally never repeated the experiment. Also do note I never tried FASI with xylene and dont remember others trying, it might just work. FASA is sure to work though.

Would be nice if one of our chem experts was able to give feedback regarding this.

Although it doesn't explicitly say D-limonene on the package, it evaps with no residue, is not water miscible, and looking online, I have found reports of it being used for spice purposes. My bum friend is going to use this source as his solvent and will report back soon!

Limonene evaporates ? How long did that take ? Heat/no heat ?

That doesn't sound like d-limo to me. Doe you have a brand name or MSDS of this product?

Yes it is called pure citrus. I have heard of people using it for spice extraction, and I can confirm a snow globe forming when I added FASI, here is a link to the MSDS http://bluemagicusa.com/bm_files/msds/Pure Citrus Spray MSDS.pdf. I also must note that i used very little for the evap test, like barely a film, so that could be my own operational error in determining this characteristic.

Just as a preemptive question, if this stuff isn't D-limo, which so far it seems to be, is there a way I can save any potential fumarates forming in it that are spicey?
