Canada considers salvia ban

Migrated topic.
ohh wonderful:?

Guess I will have to contact health canada and let them know what a shit ball job I think they are doing in reguards to "protecting" my health..

"effects similar to LSD"..yeah right...never surprises me how stupid most people can be. Throw in a little scary slogan far from the reality of the situation and they all bite..

I had a feeling this day would come..glad I have plants..guess I will have to give away a few more cuttings than usual this summer just so that this plant sticks around.

well..hopefully it wont pass...I remember a few months back health canada was trying to make all herbal health products illegal as well..thank god that didnt pass..

well that idiot harper is in power, he tried to up the punishments for pot a few weeks back. didn't pass thankfully. the guy is a real psycho when it comes to drug and ethnogens from what I've seen.

its obv that salvia didnt make this kid kill himself there had to of been other factors.

That kids note had said,

One bleak point remains; once we give up our senses we must also give up other things and regard them as meaningless.
our system of time has no meaning and completely pointless in the grand scheme of things.
also our existence is pointless compared to everything in the universe. us eartly humans are nothing.

Cant make out everything from other note

If you See...You cant Play
if you hear.. Intergalactic
feel.... Game?
Taste....
Think....

Sweat and tears cover you enveloping
is the sense of touch enveloping you
eyes are forced shut to be free of distraction
Resist surrender the mind
the restrictions
they are free salvia allows us to give up
senses and wander in the
inter dimensional of time and space

The mom says the brett that i loved would never had said something like that.
She obviously doesn't know her son very well and his cultural boundaries were obviously dissolved i am sure this kid was neglected being the reason he had to use a subtance such as salvia.

I thought Canada was beyond this.
So did I.

I'm with you fractal, I'm going to give away cuttings to anyone I know that is interested. This is a plant that I WILL NOT lose access to, no matter the consequences.

Let's just hope they come to their senses and realize it's no real threat to public safety. Wikipedia says that sales to minors are already prohibited...Although I don't remember ever hearing anything about that.

Legal status of Salvia divinorum - Wikipedia

I dont think sales to minors are prohibited by law here at the moment. I dont know of any shops that wont ID you if you look young around here though. Years ago before I began growing salvia I was ID'd when buying it. Same with any other entheogen sold in shops here in Van..

You're absolutely correct, his mother admitted it herself: “I just think, with all the things he had going on, and to add salvia to that mix, it was a lethal combination.” The loss of her son must have been devastating, and I can understand (although I don't agree with) holding the drug responsible... but she clearly acknowledges that there were other very significant factors in his suicide.

Salvia is clearly not cause; it's unclear whether it was even a contributing factor... although the medical examiner was pressured into listing it as one on his death certificate. Funny that suicides by people taking drugs that have been documented to cause suicidal ideation (SSRIs, Stratera, Accutane, etc.) virtually never have the drug listed as a contributing factor, but they did list it in this case for Salvia divinorum, which does not have such documented effects.

People who grow it care about it. If it's outlawed it won't be exploited by profiteers and used by morons. Win win.
Until we can share wisdom with others on respectful relationships with entheogens in a way that's not socially stigmatized... What other choice do people have then to pass bullshit laws. Gives us somthing to work on doesn't it.

What? Is any of that true for marijuana? Win win? They write an article every week in my local paper about some house that got busted in to and raided because the people had 5 weed plants or something.

People who actually grow salvia generally cars about it enough to grow it. People who grow hops wantmto get drunk people who
Grow pot want to get high, people who grow salvia from what I have seen want to talk to her. Sure there are lots of salvia growers for-profit out there Rhea days. But those that grow her at home to Work with her in a
Good way aren't doing it to get "fucked up!" there's a difference. And if it's outlawed the peoplemthat disrespect salvia won't be snorkel work with it and the peoemwho care and respect salvia will still he able to work with it it. Because as soon as its off the god damn market no one bit those that care f her will give a shit about it.

I see your point of view Dorge, but I don't necessarily agree with it. I refuse to abide by the law if they choose to make it illegal to grow Salvia Divinorum plants. So say something minor happens, totally unrelated, and the police enter my home and see some plants growing. They ask, "What are these plants?" and I reply, "Just ordinary house plants." But they don't believe me, because now that Salvia is illegal, they've been told to "watch out" for ordinary looking house plants that could potentially be Salvia Divinorum. So they confiscate my plants and indeed confirm that they are Salvia Divinorum plants. They charge me with possession, cultivation, intent to sell, whatever they want to nail my dick to the wall. I lose my whole life, my job, my family, my fucking cat, EVERYTHING, because some goof-ball lawmaker reads something about it being "similar to LSD" and watches a couple dumbass kids on youtube, then makes the decision that I will go to prison for years if I grow it in the privacy of my own home, for my personal use.

So yes, making it illegal might stem the flow of morons getting their hands on it, but it could very well have the opposite effect. People who have never tried it, but then gravitate towards it because, "it's illegal, then it must be good." You have drug dealers growing it without any respect for the plant, simply to make money off of these people who want to see what the fuss is all about. Making extracts that are impure and nasty, adulterated with oh...say some PCP.

I don't know...to me it sounds more like a lose lose situation.

The thing is no cop will ever be able to identify salvia plants. And they won't be looking for it and it won be a problem any more if they stop mass selling it in Porn stores.

Adding salvia divinorum and salvinorin A to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act would finally "enable law enforcement agencies to take action against suspected illegal activities involving these substances," Health Canada says in the notice.
In other words, “we can’t take legal action against people who use salvia unless we make salvia illegal”.

Can’t argue with that logic.

People who use drugs are seldom the target of law enforcement. Possession is still a crime yes.... But the major target is normally distribution.

Well, they don't sell it in Porn stores here in Canada from what I've witnessed :D And the cop doesn't even need to be able to identify it, he just has to have "probable cause" or "suspicion of illegal activities" which are very broad terms. If you think they won't be looking for it, you're sorely mistaken. The target is the distributors, you're right, and they will call me a distributor for growing a few Salvia plants in my home and making homemade extracts. It doesn't have to make much sense, as long as they catch you with it.

Yep, as I said, it doesn't even have to make sense. I really thought Canada was above this kind of thing...how wrong I was.

Like I said as soon as it becomes illegal it will become forgotten, because it won't be an issue. The average police officers ability to tell the difference between a house plant such as coleus and salvia will be appherent. People who get get a house raid and have salvia plants growing will be ignored. No cop will know the difference between salvia and another house plant. Unless you have a huge hydroponics set up for the nonexistent illicit salvia trade... Which won't happen. It won't happen because the popularity of commercial salvia is due to the fact it replaces illegal entheogens. If is no longer on the legla market it will be replaced by somthing else.
To be honest I embrace salvia being contained in the USA. People are dumb asses about it here. and us it's sold here in gas stations next to meth pipes and in pornshops along side anal ease...
