Carbonate Wash

Just did a carbonate wash on my second pull of 2 80g jars that came out really really really dark.
and it looks like so...

I followed this guide

on it the carbonate seems to be clear white while the naphtha is yellow ish
On my wash it seems like alot of the gunk that got into the naphtha merged with the carbonate so what are the chances that it took all the dmt with it and just left the naphtha clean?

Has anyone had any experience like this?

Properly done sodium carbonate wash should not take any dmt.

thats the idea behind the wash (to clean the solvent of gunk ) .. so yes its normal for it to be dark if there was gunk in the naphtha to begin with .. your second/third washes (if you do them) should become clearer and then clearer yet

as smokerx said check the link but so long as ya get the water in and out and dont leave it to sit you shouldnt lose anything

^^^yeah I gathered, which is why I did the wash, I was comparing it to the guide wash.

So I left the carbonate solution in there too long. I want to see the results so i'm freezing the naphtha but left the gunk that is bound to be loaded with dmt. You guys have any advice on how to extract the dmt from that carbonate solution? add lye? add heated naphtha?

Oh and has anyone got any idea what those shiny looking bits (look like crystals) below the naphtha layer on the mhrb/lye solution are?

you left the wash water in with the naphtha and froze it?

to answer your question yes you could just rebasify your wash water and pull using naphtha if your worried about it containing goodies..

but i would just freeze your naphtha and check the yield on what falls out.. if its not where it should be then i would worry about the wash water.. to reiterate what is said everywhere on this site "dont throw anything out"

I'm not sure how to go about rebasifying it.
I used stb tek and all i have is lye, carbonate and naphtha.
Any advice on how to extract the dmt from a carbonate wash left over?

i have never done this but i would guess just add lye until you reach ph 12/13.. then pull with naphtha

like i said check your yield of the naphtha first and see how it is.. might be ok

Thanks for the advice but please realise that I already gathered that there is dmt in the gunk from the beginning and the first thing I did after the wash was freeze the naphtha. What I really want to know is how to deal with the gunk.

Save the gunk!

Do this in a separate shot glass or something. And after a while of collecting, do a bestine pull on it, and freeze or what ever you prefer!

and how was the yield? low im assuming if you have come to the conclusion it is in the gunk?.. sorry for missing that .. anyways..

your gunk is in the sodium carbonate water correct? just add lye to ph 12/13 and pull with naphtha.. use a minimal amount of to be sure it will drop uot during freeze.. unless you want to evap then i guess the amount wouldnt really matter...

^^^Yeah the yield was very low hardly any crystals and quite alot of oil.
And that's right it is in the carbonate water. I'll give it ago later in the week and report back.

I really dont think the spice would back-absorb into the carbonate water from the naptha.

Generally when your solution is pH 9+ (to my knowledge) dmt will be in its free base form and become soluble in nonpolar solutions. As long as that sodium bicarb soln was basic to its general ph 9, the bicarb wash shouldnt absorb any dmt.

The reason it was very dark was because it pulled out alot of nasty impurities from your naptha soln that you dont want. Spice is clear and crystalline anyway, so you cant judge dmt content based off of color.

Since you got an oil residue from evaporating your naptha I would suggest redissolving that in naptha and doing a small freeze precip.
