Changa and hypertension.

SWIM has had the spice twice without breakthrough... the first time is a story unto itself ;)
It was infused on leaf material.

The second time was as a changa mix. AFAIK, this includes a range of herbs, at least one as a source of MAOI. Changa is also known as "smokeable ayahuasca".

When SWIM smoked the changa, he had also consumed a range of psychotropic substances earlier in the day, including khat, LSD, ketamine and a small ammount of MDxx. The changa smoked was a small dose, so that SWIM was entirely lucid during the effects, which were a little more prolonged than when he had straight DMT.
SWIM noticed his heart was thumping and he became very hot; effects which had not presented when he had straight DMT. He was not overly concerned as he did not feel ill. SWIM and his friend who supplied the spice knew of the effects of MAOI + MDxx. They had both had small ammounts of MDxx and decided to risk taking the spice regardless.
In retrospect, this was probably a poor decision.

SWIM is currently taking mirtazapine, a tricyclic anti-depressant, to help stabalise mood and regular sleep. In lower doses it has more of a sleepy effect than an anti-depressant effect (it is taken before bed and is fast acting). Waking up can be difficult as mirtazapine leaves one feeling groggy the next morning.

SWIM's friend has come accross another batch of changa, and they both plan to smoke this on Friday. According to Wiki, mirtazapine is contra-indicated with MAOI. Despite the awesome sleep he's having, SWIM doesn't particularly like the side-effects of mirtazapine and will be speaking with his doctor tomorrow about ceasing medication. He plans to NOT take his medication tonight for various reasons, mostly because he plans to take various chemicals this weekend and his experience is that mirtazapine weakens their effects.

SWIM really wants to give this new batch of changa a try, because his friend says it is more potent (he broke through for the first time on it).

SWIM is worried that there may still be mirtazapine in his system on Friday night despite him going without from tonight (Wednesday) and is concerned he might experience hypertensive crisis due to serotonin syndrome.

What are people's experience with changa causing hypertension?
Does the fact that the MAOI is smoked (as opposed to ingested) make it more or less potent/dangerous?

Does anyone have any experience with mirtazapine? (Remeron in USA, other brand names depending on location; MORE INFO HERE.)

Forgot to add, SWIM started taking a 15mg dose of mirtazapine for about 1 month, then stepped it up to 30mg for the last month.

Mirtazapine has a half life of 20-40 hours, for males, the mean half life is 26 hours, so you would certainly have mirtazapine in your system on friday.

The harmala alkaloids normally added actually lower blood pressure, so it's likely some interaction is occurring from some other drug taken around the time the changa is being smoked.
