Closing your eyes during the come up

It really depends on the environment I am in and the amount of light intake I am getting to determine whether or not I close my eyes when spice travelling. If I am inside I will always close my eyes because I know whatever I am going to be after I smoalk the spice is going to be 1000 times more interesting then wherever I am inside at the time. Outside is a different story though which is where I prefer to do most of my travelling. If it is a particularly light day outside I still prefer to close my eyes so the light isn't overwhelming but I think sunset outside is the best time for full open eyed trips. For example I went on a solo backpacking trip in a mountain range east of my home to a high mountain lake sitting below a few epic mountain peaks. At sunset I smoalked about 35 mg at the edge of the lake and had one of the most intense open eye dmt trips of my life. Upon smoking this dose faces popped out of every facet on the mountain peaks all of which had different opinions about who I was as a person. At the same time adult human sized "sprites" jumped out of all the pine trees around me and started to dance in a circle around me in a sort of loving initiation dance. As they did this every living and non-living thing I saw had and entity associated with it and they all crept closer to inspect me. This trip is really what got me interested in trying open eye trips more often.

If you exhale and you can still see vapor, it means you can still hold it in for a bit longer. Sometimes I release a very small "test-exhale" to see if I can still see vapor or not. If I can, I know I have to hold it in more. This usually takes around 15 seconds for the max absorption to happen for me.

Wow 15s seems like a really long time, that's about the time I usually had to hold salvia hits for any effect at all

Damn laws making us cavemen regarding this stuff! This would probably be fundamental knowledge if it wasn't for all the fat aristoCats,things uch as "how much and for how long" etc, it's truly annoying. However, if it would be neccessary to hold in a hit for 15seconds I guess DMT is actually a poor candidate for absorption via the lungs?

I'm about to try a pharmahuasca soon however, will be nice to know the oral-DMT intake for once as this is usually completely random with traditional ayahuasca.

The wierd thing with ayahuasca is the dosage charts, as they seem to generalize alot sayin 20g MHRB is a "strong" experience whereas it could be everything from bunk to more than 200mg DMT, which I assume would be a really strong dose

Ok, a couple of points about this post:

DMT is quite the tricky drug to absorb through the lungs. There are so many factors that go into good smoking/vaping technique such that you can have a life time supply of pure DMT, but if you didn't know how to smoke it right, you'd most likely not get too far past the front door. Holding it in as long as a salvia hit is the idea.

As for the pharma, just as smoked DMT has its drawbacks which can make its effects seem all the more arbitrary due to sophisticated technique, oral DMT has a similar range of randomness due to digestion, metabolism and with ayahuasca there's the additional brewing/filtering efficiency, and percentage of alkaloids.

With ayahuasca, any "dosage chart" that marks 20g MHRB as a "strong" experience is misleading. If you're taking 20g then it's clear you don't know what you're doing in terms of brewing, and consuming ayahuasca in general. With either pharma or aya, you'd want to start low and work your way up. These things can be so unpredictable.

With my most recent experience I've actually come to decide that I will no more close my eyes when using DMT.

Reason: Instead of being bombarded by random alhtough incredibly vivid stuff by CEV's I SO more enjoy having them opened to see the change of scenery take place, it seems so much more worth it IMO.

The feeling of "having to" close ones eyes in order to experience anything just seems dull to me, whenever I do this on ayahuasca I even tend to get really sleepy and I have, on several occassions actually fallen asleep because of this, missing out on the whole experience which is frankly just retarded since I still have to take a huge crap from the "la purga" effects whenever I wake up.

This is not meant to make me look like I'm some sort of CEV-nazi but rather to encourage those who ALWAYS close their eyes to actually resist the urge to do so, at least once on a high dose.

As far as I am thinking at the moment that journey was the single most terrifying incident of my life!

I hit 36mg in the GVG whilst in bed, all lights off. Hit the pipe and there is some light from the torch. As soon as torch goes out it is as if the dark is hitting me. The room lights up with very fine gold hexagon lattice work. Suddenly everything about me, all of my life history basically runs through itself, folds itself up and puts me in a box that I can at once both observe and be, places me in an infinite void.

I used to like the concept of closing your eyes as if things went majorly wrong you could open your eyes and get a little closer to normal reality. In the dark with no ability to understand any object that was around me I decided I was dead. Somehow I managed to drag myself out of my box and do some kind of a rebirth moment.

Coming out of my box I am sitting on my bed with my teeth clamped round the edge of my duvet and there are odd beings made out of light and a canopy over me and these lot get replaced by another lot after a short while. Journey faded out after a while of being enveloped.

After that one I had to get the lights back on and check I really was alive as I was quite unsure.

As far as I understand it that whole journey was open eyes but in near total darkness, I think the fact that it showed me some very horribly twisted and slightly questionable things but as it was dark and I had my eyes open there really wasn’t really any way of easing the experience when it decided to get rough.

It’s posts like this that illustrate how differently each of us experiences DMT. My CEVs are never “random”. As far from random as one can get…

I suppose if all you see with eyes closed is “dull” random patterns, then keeping your eyes open makes sense.

We each experience DMT differently, so what works well for one may not be appropriate for another.

Sometimes I get very little at all from closed eyes, it can be quite frustrating at times. I used to spend most journeys with my eyes closed but nowadays it varies, just as my need for either musical accompaniment or silence does.

I think that basing your preference of any DMT-related effect on the basis of one or even ten experiences is limiting yourself. There is a lot of exploring to be done in all aspects of this incredible molecule, it really is infinite.

Saying all that, yes we do all experience things differently and enjoy different things so I can only speak for myself.

Something alot of people seem to find controversial about this powerful substance is the definition of a "Breakthrough".

My view on the matter would be that; When a person has reached the state of psychedelic-intoxication where he/she no longer experience any difference with closed/open eyes, alternatively "seeing without eyes" (the phenomena of this occurence is spoken about earlier in the post), one have had a breakthrough.

Now I admit that this suggestion might come off as a bit superficial due to the fact that everyone interprets their experiences within their own subjectivity and unique characterisation but regardless of the controversy, does anyone agree with this theory or is it just my analasys of a "standard explanation/defination)- breakthrough?

I've come to a whole new understanding about this matter:
When I breakthrough, my eyes are open, I try to carefully put down my device and lighter.

Mere seconds after that theres often some sort of "flash", I actually recognize it as a flashbang (some sort of disabling grenade/military weapon) from a TV show were they recreated its effects to show people what its like to be "flashed"

Everything shines up with an extremely intense white light, along with this a high pitched carrierwave comes on, it's as high as 15 000hz if not higher, it's completely defeaning and comparable to a strong tinnitus but without the discomfort.

As this happens I'm full-on peak.

When the peak reaches plateau and when I start coming down I will "snap out", still having real but mostly "transparent" OEV's. If I however close my eyes at this point, there's only the back of my eyelids to be seen and in this sense symbolizes my breakthroughs.

If I however, "fail" at breaking through the OEV's will be heavy but dull in comparison to the CEV's and not the other way around
