My first 2 pulls the naptha was clear, I added more lye and it has a yellow tint, similar to urine. All are in the freezer, will I get anything out of the clear pulls, or should I just dump it back in the mason jar and reuse the naptha now that the base has increased?

Leave it overnight and see what comes out.
SWIM says he thinks pulls are better the more yellow they are. Maybe SWIM is getting more than just spice, but SWIM has never been upset smokin what he pulls.
Please note, SWIM believes too much yellow = plant oils. SWIM believes if its clear yellow and not milky yellow, you are golden.

I have noticed that when one heats the NaOH/mhrb solution and then pulls with naptha the product as well as the color of the naptha is very yellow, but not a jungle spicey orange or red, just clear yellow.
Even after a slight wash and re-crystallization, the crystals are still very yellow. I get about .5% higher yield (1.1%-1.6% unwashed) when I heat it.
I don't know if its because the bark is breaking down better under the heat or if there is extra stuff being pulled.
Does anybody else heat theirs up when they do the extraction? or can anybody provide some insight.

First pull of clear naptha did not produce any, the 2nd pull with clear produced and everyone thereafter has so far. Was busy for a few days and left pull # 6 sit and just extracted and placed in the freezer.
Next will be pulls with xylene. Will the "jungle" freeze out as well?

I don't know about insight but I can tell you that I get the exact same results. I often get a yellow spice (even after being cleaned) but this has always been nice clean spice.
I did not defat with straight naptha first. I will do that next time with the MHRB and see if the yellow is due to fats and oils. Seems my first pulls and jars formed white crystals but as I continue each batch is getting more yellow. I think its due to the break down of the bark.

Jungle Spice cannot be extracted using Naphtha. Toluene or Xylene should be used for Jungle Spice extractions, and these cannot be freeze precipitated; one must evap to get anything from Xylene or Toluene.

Generally more yellow solution means more substances (like impurities) have been pulled, and therefore also more DMT. This only applies when we're talking about the same solvent, of course. I have personally found that naphtha is a lot less selective than heptane, and dissolves just about all kinds of impurities along with DMT.
Heptane on the other hand, seems to be much more narrow and just about only dissolve DMT (really nice amount of it too), and therefore remain clear. With naphtha I would recommend you do a sodium carbonate wash and a plain water one before freeze precipitation. It does not remove all impurities, heptane is still often better, but it can get rid of a good amount of them. The naphtha can even clear quite a bit and loose a noticeable amount of the yellow discolouration.
Just remember that the yellow colour is not DMT-N-Oxide, it simply is not soluble in naphtha or heptane, instead it dissolves very easily in water.

A defat with STB is usually worthless. You are trying to defat the actual plant, which has lots of oils within it's cell walls. The lye breaks those down and the oils are released...
With an A/B though, it pulls ALL the oils out and you are always left with white spice (however, you cannot get yellow spice after a defat, at least not much).
It depends on where you live. In the UK I think it's sold as 'Bestine' and I've also heard of the name 'Powerfuel'. In some european countries it's called "chemically pure gasoline" or something alike. It really differs, but the main purpose is fuel/cleaning/inkremover. Look for such products and check what's really in it. I've never heard of heptane sold as heptane so to speak, you have to check on the container (look for 'n-heptane').Baffald said:

It is sold as rubber cement thinner and is 100% heptane. IT IS PRICEY! I only use it for recrystalizations because of its cost. Works great to extract clean white spice, not so good for extracting yellow spice.
