Condensation on dish when removing from freezer

I’m looking for advice on how best to collect the crystals after freeze precipitation.

Right now, I’m taking them out of the freezer and letting them sit and warm to room temp before removing the lid and draining/siphoning off the solvent.

I can’t say for certain, but I think that some of the crystals are redissolving as the solvent warms up. Is this possible? Do I need to try and get the solvent drained while it’s still freezer cold?

I let them warm because there is always a LOT of condensation that forms on the cold dish and I’m afraid of introducing water contamination to the exposed crystals.

I don’t know if any of that is fact.

Am I doing right? It makes it much more time consuming. Is water from condensation undesirable? If so, is keeping the lid on until warm the best practice for preventing it?

If not, what is the general best practice for removing a cold dish that contains solvent and precipitated extract with the desire to reuse as much solvent as possible?

Thanks for any advice or insight.

Don't worry about condensation, it is pure distilled water and DMT freebase is practically insoluble in water. It will evaporate and leave behind your DMT crystals after you drain the cold solvent off. The worst it can do is wash it around a bit, so look out for run off of suspended crystals.

The whole idea of freezing it is that by lowering the temperature of the solvent you reduce the amount of DMT that can be held in solution drastically so the DMT that dissolved into it in your bark soup mix falls out and crystallises on the bottom of the dish.

By letting the solvent warm up then you are going to be reversing the process, causing the solvent to be capable of holding much more DMT and thus redissolving much of your yield.

Most TEKs say to drain off the solvent as quickly as possible to avoid the likelihood of your yield redissolving.

TL;DR, don't worry about condensation. If you saved the solvent you drained off before, then try refreezing it, you might get a pleasant surprise!

When you put into the freezer, tip your container slightly so that the solvent only covers one half. Then after the DMT has crashed out, tip the container the other way for a few hours (while still in the freezer) so that the solvent drains to the other end and your crystals mostly dry off. Then remove carefully, without letting the solvent touch the crystals.

If you’re in a humid location, it’s better to remove from the freezer into a cold, air conditioned room. Actually, working in a low humidity room before closing your container would also help.

IMHO, melting crystals can often be attributed to solvent trapped in the crystal lattice, or NMT transitioning back into its clear oil state and taking DMT with it. I also suspect water returning to its liquid state and warming up solvent plays a role, but not certain.

Okay. That’s good advice. What I’ve been doing is popping the top and pipetting the silent out as quick as I can before putting that to back on and letting it warm up to room temp. Then I take the top back off and let evaporate
