Crappy Yields (again)

Migrated topic.

Hey guys,

I was the guy who posted the problem of the poor yields with the poor yields with a heated heptane extraction. I decided to simplify the process to troubleshoot. I ordered new bark from Secret Herbals. I used 1500 mL of water, 7 tablespoons of lye, 125 g of MHRB. Using 150 mL of naphtha, my first pull resulted in about 50 mg of dmt. Recycling the naphtha from the first pull, I did another pull which also resulted in 50 mg. Then, I did one more pull using about 100 mL of naphtha which resulted in nothing. I evaporated about half of my second pull prior to freeze precipitation.

I'm not really sure what the problem is. I'm going to pop a thermometer in my freezer after I get home from work.

Hi atom,

It seems to me that you used a bit too much naphtha. It is ok to use that much, but it is usually wise to let it evaporate down to about 1/3 of the original amount. This allows the DMT crystals precipitate out of the naphtha a lot easier. This could be your problem. Your freezer might not be cold enough, but definitely try either using less naphtha for each pull, or doing as i suggested and evap it down so when you blow on it, the naphtha turns a cloudy milky color. I hope that helps!

I stir 3 times for 5 minutes every 1-2 hours.

I'll use 75 mL next time, but I'll note, my last pull had a clear yellow color. I let my last pull evap for a very very small amount (10 mL?), and it attained a very cloudy, yellow. My first pull was completely clear. I let my second pull evap quite a bit to the point where it was a bit orange.

Naphtha is superior to Heptane for the initial extraction. You'll pull much more with naphtha. It might not be as pretty white, but you'll end up with more and can clean it up if you really want to.

Also as others have stated you are using too much solvent. Keep pulls to 100mL or less for 125g mimosa. A ratio of 1:2 (naphtha/ml - mimosa/g) is more than enough. I use 200mL for a 500g mimosa extraction per pull, and I REUSE the naphtha over and over. I only use a total of 400mL per extraction. 400mL goes in a beaker and the can of naphtha goes back where it belongs.

Okay, I just did a pull using 75 mL of room temp naphtha on a new MHRB/Lye mixture. It's sitting the freezer right now. I'll post the results ASAP!

UPDATE: First pull yielded .204g of spice. Thanks everyone for helping!

use the following:
50g powdered Root Bark in
50g NaOH dissolved in
750ml dH20.
use 50ml of naptha per pull.
these contents will perfectly fill a pint mason jar

for a larger scale extraction which i have now graduated to, use the following.
225g bark in
225g NaOH dissolved in
3375ml dH20.
use 225ml naptha per pull.
these contents will fill a milk jug which is 4.5 times the size of a mason jar.

these ratios were published by noman and have been proven to work perfectly.

tip: use a crock pot on high to warm your vessels and get larger yields.

this stuff is all simple logic..!
