Hi there,

You can use ceramic instead of glass, yes. Just make sure you can easily scrape off the crystals from the surface of said dish after freeze precip is finished. If the surface is not smooth you will have a harder time scraping them goodies off the dish.

Also make sure that the dish you are using is deep enough so that when you transport the vessel to and from the freezer you don't spill the precious liquid inside! In that regard, regular table plates definitely won't do the right job. You need something like a casserole for the task. Be careful and treat the process with equal amounts respect and patience!

I just like glass because it's easier to see the yield in there and any contaminants that might be in it.

There is transperent foil over the plate so i it isnt problem of spilling,but im asking is there any chemical procces or reason you need bigger depth aka more space?

No chemical process in this case requires a deeper dish. However if you splash the saturated liquid around and it touches the cling film above not only will you get crystals on that plastic stuff that will be hard to take off, but also the solvent will come in contact with plastic, which as you might imagine isn't as preferable.

If you don't care about touching the plastic cling film, and if you are careful not to spill the liquid, you can use as shallow a dish as you want. No volume increase will occur at any time, so having a deeper dish is not required.
