Dichloromethane

I am producing Dmt using dichloromethane and Acacia confusa in the stb method. Is it safe to heat the dichloromethane just a little?Does the dichloromethane layer always come to the bottom? Also, I have a lye with Dmt that I extracted once before, and I suspect there is a little bit of the hexane I used before. Is it safe to mix the hexane and dichloromethane?

Why would you need to heat the DCM? It has a very low boiling point. Mixing hexane and DCM isn't dangerous in the sense of reactivity, but they're both toxic to some degree. There's also a risk that your solvent mixture would end up with the same density as the aqueous phase of the extraction, which would be problematic.

One more reason why DCM can be prone to emulsions is that a concentrated basic solution may get dense enough to approach the density of DCM.
