DMT doesnt smell the same after evap

Hey guys, i'm trying to get some chunky white crystals, so i extracted from 100g of mimosa hostilis, i freeze precipitated it, re-boiled it with activated charcoal for a while to get it fairly white (i think there is still trace amount of charcoal left in there, so next time i will use higher grade filters)
after the first freeze precip, it had the signature DMT smell to it, but now after re-ex it doesnt seem to, instead it seems to have a very feint grease-like smell
after the first re-ex i took a few flakes off and re-dissolved it in hot naptha (much more dilute this time), and dropped the flakes in once it cooled as a seed, i now have it sitting somewhere with about 90% of the opening covered up to control the evaporation rate (which is now approximately 10-15ml/day) in an attempt to get quartz-like crystals

my question is about the smell; is it normal for it to loose the new-shoes like smell once you re-x it? is it the impurities that give it that smell? or have i ruined my product somehow

another thing i am curious about is re-x using heptane, as i understand, at around room temperature, dmt is very insoluble in heptane, which might make a slow evap for the purpose of larger crystals quite difficult, does anyone have any guidance on that?

Just to re-confirm, you took photos of this effect and viewed then while in a completely baseline state and this is what you saw? Did you compare them side-by-side with other photos taken at times when you appeared to be your normal self? I'm only asking to be sure you weren't tricking yourself.

That's right. i mixed the white "snowglobe" a few posts up with vape juice, and i think it had the same effect but it was more subtle because i was already noticing it but not sure if it was actually happening, or i was just being aware of my arms
so when i put 70 or so mg of the yellow stuff i made last night into the machine (actualy i made this yellow stuff with freeze precip because i thought maybe i was doing something with recrystallization) and inhaled a big dose, it was definately noticable. i took a picture of myself because i was aware enough to realise i gotta judge it sober and yeah, it's definately happening
just BTW, i use cybs tek, i do the whole process in a warm/ hot water bath, and i use extra salt and lye to prevent emulsions

i just did an evap test on my shellite- it seems that it precipitates an oily substance, which maybe is why the white batch was so damn oily.. damnit, i've used about 250g of bark powder so far, and i suspect all the stuff i've extracted is just wasted. maybe that oily substance is whats causing this effect on me

Don't worry, once you've got a clean solvent to work with you can purify the material you've already extracted. One method often suggested is the mini A/B, or perhaps a version where you dissolve the DMT freebase directly in vinegar and then include a degreasing step during the acidic phase using something like heptane.

Even a recrystallisation (re-x) from a clean solvent, with freeze precip and no evaporation, will help clean it up considerably.

actually now that i think about it, i think the white stuff used heptane instead of naptha for the re-ex

I've ordered some n-hexane, i'm gonna try zippo fluid and i'll also try get my hands on some heptane

The zippo DMT doesnt seem to have inflated me like a balloon, hopefully... more testing is required

I'm doing an extraction with cuminata bark, i will leave it to stew for a while until my hexane arrives, then i will use hexane to extract... hopefully less toxic

i also noticed that the stuff i tried to smoke seemed alot less potent than normal dmt... usually people say 50mg will take you into hyperspace, but i put 80 in the machine and was still lucid but with visuals

Here are the chunks. i emptied a little early, i thought it might help with residue to not let it evap all the way, potentially a large amount of any contamination might still be in solution and not settled onto the crystals yet. the last 35ml i put into a smaller beaker with one of the chunks in it, hopefully i can make that chunk grow big and strong

just hoping they arent gonna make me swell up like the last lot i made with the same solvent. hopefully drying it more, the fact that it has much lower surface area and that i didnt let it 100% evap, and also that it had a couple more purification steps. hoping that stops whatever what was happening with the other stuff... wish me luck, might make a bigger batch and see how big of a crystal i can make. i showed the pic to a dude who makes dmt on an industrial level, and he said he never seen chunks like that before
