In total, 60 clandestine laboratories were dismantled in 2022, including 2 fentanyl laboratories; 3 dimethyltryptamine (DMT) laboratories, which includes 2 “super” laboratories; and 50 BHO(also known as “honey oil”) laboratories (28 were “super” laboratories) and 5 methamphetamine laboratories (1 powder and 4 crystal “super” conversion laboratories).
Page 97 mentions multiple 2022 busts of "super" dmt labs in Los Angeles alone.

Super = 10 lb. or more per cycle
DTO = Drug Trafficking Organization

DMT isn't mentioned anywhere else in the report, although I suspect the issue is in Colorado too. I've seen lots of examples on reddit of dealers advertising dmt vape carts in packaging. This report is just one of multiple hints I've seen of overlap between commercial THC cart manufacturing and DMT cart manufacturing. And clearly it's an organized operation, most of the people I see new to DMT are asking a question related to vape carts. They're seemingly everywhere.

Not to suggest that every clandestine lab in LA is related, but I imagine some are poly-drug labs. It's alarming to me that the same DTO's that are flooding the country with meth, thc carts, fentanyl are trying to turn a profit on DMT too. It's crazy that people would buy a cart that could have anything in it. But the upscaled packaging and vape cart form factor are designed to be consumer friendly. *Don't ask, just puff.*

I also found this article interesting
Last month, federal agents made history by seizing the largest volume of precursors used to produce methamphetamine after interdicting two shipments from two ships on the high seas. DHS Homeland Security Investigations international agents in Guatemala, Panama and Mexico worked closely with foreign law enforcement partners to consolidate shipments in Panama and divert them to the Port of Houston, The Center Square reported.

Their efforts through HSI Operation Hydra are continuing to target drug trafficking by hitting the supply line of chemical precursors used to manufacture fentanyl and methamphetamine being shipped from China to cartel operatives.

Nearly 700,000 pounds of precursor chemicals were seized from two ships in this operation – the largest volume seized in U.S. history.
And ya wonder why we can't have nice chemicals.

So I found a website that I don't want to link to or promote, but I do want to show it as an example because it's peak modern digital commercialization of DMT...

If you search for [mod edit - nope!] on google it's one of the top results. There's like 10 different "brands" of vape carts, but chances are it's all one operation. There's even powder for sale. Just a telegram and cashapp away.

How do other people feel about this? About time? or *gag*?

Gag. That's not the way. The emphasis seems to be in marketing (very nice, colorful packaging as you say) above anything else. I fear that sets the perfect ground for eventual media hysteria when something happens (toxic product, infant intoxication, reckless use leading to harm) and increased prosecution.

It resembles to me the synthetic cannabinoid vapes targeted to teenagers. Legal or illegal, I don't think that's a model to follow.

I'm starting to get concerned about adulterated flower, too. I have a lot of experience with vaping flower and some stuff I get is suspiciously smelly, but low vapor; or sometimes thicker vapor makes me suspicious too. Like maybe they're spraying low quality flower with terpenoids to make it smell danker, or even spraying on synthetic cannabinoids to increase the potency. Sometimes I look under the microscope and see micron globs of oil that don't seem natural, like the trichomes obviously are.

This story comes to mind. In this case it was not a normal DTO, but a highly motivated guy that ended up creating his own organization. He had many people working to painstakingly extract from MHRB what a single chemist would have been able to synthesize. I don't understand how someone can go to such lengths without stopping for a moment to consider other alternatives (I mean from his perspective and objectives, I don't condone his actions).
The article is surprisingly balanced, it doesn't demonize DMT itself.

The subject of that poorly titled (i'm not see the 'fall' ;)) Wired article is a very hateable fellow. Made millions selling dmt and hardly did any time (2yrs).
Good looking, met his wife while vacationing in Hawaii and then Europe, spent his childhood taking LSD on a regular basis(story just glosses right over that one, as if it were some minor character trait) I liked the story
