DMT Fumarate is powder not crystals?

I am using Mono-ethyl-fumarate which is a powder sold for psoriasis.

I followed the tek correctly,

* freebase in acetone then mixed with FASA,

* dmt fumarate drops out,

* pour off acetone and discard acetone,

* then water wash, discarded excess fumarate powder and kept the water,

* evaporated water,

* dissolved in fresh acetone to make sure it is DMT Fumarate and it didn't dissolve so that is a yes,

So why is it powder and not crystals?

^This is correct. This probably happened because you forced the precipitation to happen too quickly.

If you want nicer crystals add the fumaric acid in 1-2ml increments until the solution is completely clouded, then wait as long as it takes to go clear again, repeat until your not seeing any more clouding when the fasa is added.

Pay attention to the color & thickness of the clouds as well. If your adding fasa & its getting cloudy, the clouding gets whiter when alot of prcipitate is forming. If you don't add so much the clouding turns milky every time it takes alot longer but the crystals will form slower & nicer.

Appearance can range from quickly precipped powder to light flakey crystals to shardlike needles.

If you have a separatory funnel you can use it to control the addition rate for you.
