DMT melting after freezing precipitation tried methods in FAQ

Hey, community. New user here.

A friend of a friend has a huge question, well for them it's huge, for you guys and gals.

SWIM is using the STB tek outlined by NatureBoy on shroomery.org [Here's the link: STB tek and pictorial - UPDATED - The Psychedelic Experience - Shroomery Message Board ]

It's fairly straightforward, 100mg bark in 600mg d. water/100mg lye/150v&m N

Now after the freeze precipitation step SWIM sees crystals at the bottom and removes all V&M N, and leaves the mason jar to dry. After a day it's all liquid.

So SWIM checks out the FAQ on the ~Nexus and use Endlessness' method outlined in the thread DMT Melting Crystals that's linked in the FAQ. And still the crystals melt and what more gets absorbed by the coffee filter this time (where previously it was still in the mason jar tho melted but recyclable).

SWIM then uses the method that's described in the FAQ itself i.e. removing naptha and turning jar upside down putting back inside freezer. SWIM removes after sev. hours and place crystals on filter but begins to dissolve and so SWIM places them in a glass container and there immediately turns to goo.

SWIM said this morning said goo has dried with no crystals visible.

SWIM said tilting the jar to like 90 degrees and leaving there a long time until solvent is not touching the precip anymore is a good thing. Also make sure surface areas exposed a bit so precip is not holding solvent a ton (ie not like 2 inches thick of precip, or maybe less than whatever your buddy tried

SWIM did tilt the jar to allow air circulation to reach the bottom of the jar where the crystals were stuck to. The crystals simply melted within a couple of minutes. SWIM nevertheless left the jar there for 4 hours

BTW this is SWIM's new pull SWIM is waiting for possible feedback before moving forward with the final step drying, still in freezer

Hm not sure how that happened. Maybe took out of freezer too long and heated solvent up above freezing? or freezer took forever to cool down after opening, as if it’s a freezer that works slowly would ??

I’d guess one of the above is the culprit.

Rather unusual tilting etc is inadequate. Swim knows someone that suggested washing away naphtha w another freezing solvent, like 33% alcohols or greater. Particularly one the precip is not soluble in; that would have to be wiki’d.
That is all that swim thought of.

LOL, "SWIM" - this is sounding like 2010 here

The chunks in the coffee filter pic look exactly like water ice. Not that I'd normally say anything so conclusive on the basis of a photo, but there's your answer.

You may want to try resting your naphtha pulls in the fridge before carefully transferring them into a different vessel for the freeze precip. A pyrex jug makes for a handy resting vessel.

Do not rinse DMT freebase with ethanol, it is exceedingly soluble in even fairly weak spirit at anything much above -18°C. Pretty much anything that dissolves naphtha will also dissolve DMT, but if you can get hold of some ice cold pentane, that would be your best bet. I suppose decanted liquid butane would also do the job, just as long as due caution was exercise with the attendant safety measures. Don't be a statistic.

With those amounts, you'll be lucky to see anything freeze precipitate anywhere. 100mg bark will yield you 300µg of DMT at the very best, and if that's dissolved in 150mL naphtha (or did you use nitrogen?) then none of that will freeze precipitate, especially not in your seemingly feeble freezer.

Another problem seems to be that you are possibly somewhat on the lazy side and might benefit from paying greater attention to detail. Don't worry, I'm guilty of both of these too (that's how I know)!

at 1-2% concentration, .1g material is likely to produce .001-.002g of dmt, which honestly probably wont even register visibly.
I concur with earlier statements that the crystal formed in pic 1 is water. DMT comes out all spindly like fine snow (at least to me).

I havent looked at the tek your referencing, but it sounds ineffectual and poorly ratiod for ingredients.

That said, if this is your first foray into the field, good job on the leap and keep going. Every attempt is solid practice and will work out the kinks as you go.

I would recommend moving on to Nomans Tek , a great starter tek that is efficient and gives ideal returns without a lot of bells and whistles, at least until you are ready to step things up to another level of chemistry.

Eh, maybe sorry for being possibly a bit snarky about the units but I'm sure you realise, OP, that you probably meant to type 'g' instead of 'mg', and possibly you would have typed 'mL' instead of 'mg' for the volume of water. These kinds of mistakes are as much easy to make as it is important to get them right.

One further tip I would hazard to give is don't attempt extractions while tired or intoxicated.

There were definitely some yellowish-looking signs of success in your jar and maybe if you had done more to exclude water from the freeze precip there would have been something to show for your efforts already.
