SWIM extracted some DMT a few days ago and noticed his spice smelt like Moth balls, SWIM then researched what moth balls are made of and found out something quite shocking.
Moth balls are made out of Naphthalene a very similar chemical to Naphtha, SWIM was curious if either of these smells are related because the similar chemical used.

People describe the smell of moth balls as being kinda flowery sweet/chemical plastic, which kinda describes what SWIMS DMT smells like.

"Mothballs are small balls of chemical pesticide and deodorant used when storing clothing and other articles susceptible to damage from mold or moth larvae (especially clothes moths like Tineola bisselliella)."

Dimethyltryptamine is an indole based compound.

Indole is very smelly and has been said by some to smell like mothballs.

Indole is used widely in perfumes.

Indole is also a major component of human feces.

Thanks for the clear up! SWIM did a STB extraction so he thinks that is why he has such smelly spice.
SWIM will be doing a A/B extraction soon, Hope the smell is decreased :)
Much love everyone!

Nope. You will find this smell going routes that do not use naptha. Its the smell of the spice.

SWIM Gets the same smell from d-limo fumarates freebased and precipitated out of koh water. Then re-pulled with dry acetone and evapped to yeild a very nice oil that will crystallize to a waxy white powder.

Excellent results with the bioassay, freebasing with lime and pulling with isopropyl produced a Enormously different affect, similar doses vaporized in exactly the same manner. He much prefers the water route, and attributes the extra mothbally smell to a higher purity of pure nndmt vs dmt-n-oxide.

Swim thinks this has something to do with dmt-n-oxide being soluble in the koh water, so not being present in the water tek final product. The product used for these extractions was from the same jar of fumarates. I think dry teks will give you a less pure nndmt profile, where stbs and a/b's will give a more pure nndmt profile.

^Keep those two separate even in a joke, mr fool.

I think it smells more like some kind of flowers. The naphtha smell is there only if it hasn't all vaporated out. I redissolve in acetone just to make sure there's no naphtha trapped.

IME when I have a fresh batch of spice it smells like I just walked into the sneaker section of a sporting goods store!
When the spice has oxidized a little I definitely get that mothball smell.
My GVG reeks of it after its been used just once after cleaning it.

I've actually come to enjoy the smell now! :d

Is oxidation bad for the spice? Will it make it less potent?
No...some people prefer oxidized DMT to "pure" white DMT.

I personally like to extract/re-x to white/clear crystals and then oxidize the outside of my crystals with a high speed computer fan. Ime, it lengthens the come-up slightly and makes a bit of a smoother transition, however this could all be self-suggested.

Either way, I like my dmt with a little oxide.

Yes, White spice is nice but I've come to find that slightly oxidized spice to be a little more potent. At least for me anyway.
In high doses though DMT N-oxide can actually be quite frightening.

I like to mix it up!

I make white and yellow separately and then mix as needed. I feel like the white one wears off much quicker with doses under 23mg at least. The yellow one has stronger body load for me and is smoother in the sense that everything does not
come and go so quickly. Yellow is slightly harsher for the lungs. I can say it's definately different at least for me.
It's just from several experiences, the conclusions.
