DMT recrystallization issue...?

so i acquired about 500mg of very white DMT using q21q21's TEK #2, but just to be on the safer side i aimed to do a recrystallization to remove any dust or plant matter that may have made its way into it.

i heated up roughly 20mL of naptha and poured the DMT contents into the naptha, which dissolved quite easily. then i let it sit for about 15-20min while it got the naptha/DMT nice and warm. it's now been sitting in the freezer for 8 hours and i'm not getting the snow globes as i did before when freeze precipitating. there is, however, a layer of white shit on around the pyrex dish, it just does not look like it did before...

how long should i let it freeze precip? 24 hours?

12 - 24h is best.
But from what I read. The reason why you are reX, is to clean any crap or alks you don't want in your final product. So when you are adding the DMT to the heated naphtha, then you must stir, then decant (pour) out the naphtha containing the dmt into another vessel, leaving behind the crap at the bottom of your shot glass.
If you want to just reX to make really nice Xtls, then you are doing the right thing.

So if you wanted to clean it and you didn't decant it, then you will have to heat it up again, decant and then toss in the freezer or evap.

is the white stuff caked around the bottom of the pyrex bowl the dmt? it looks odd. there wasn't really any leftover gunk when i dissolved the dmt in the heated naptha, just a few tiny dust/plant particles i picked out. so i'm guessing i really didn't need to reX.

did i fuck this up somehow? i just thought the dmt was going to look a lot different than it's starting to look now after 12 hrs...

the temperature of the solvent seems to matter when recrystallizing. lower temps seem to be more selective and form more of an oily layer before decanting if there are any oils to be left behind. if you dissolved white crystal into the solvent then it should precipitate white crystal out, which will likely collect on the sides and bottom of your dish as tiny crystals. the whole process shouldn't take very long if you used a minimal amount of solvent. potentially a few hours.

not sure how you could have messed it up. once the crystal is scraped from the dish it should look like white powder.

yeah i didn't think it was possible to mess this up... but the white layer forming does not look like crystals which is why i'm confused. i just took it out of the freezer after 14-15 hrs and i'm letting it dry now. it just looks like so much less than what i started with, which i wasn't expecting because my product was clear white to begin with...

sometimes recrystallization leads to a loss of yield from freeze precipitation because of the amount of solvent holding the spice. if you evaporate the solvent down it should yield the rest of the spice you dissolved in the first place

thank you! i wasn't aware you;d lose product due to the amount of solvent used. i guess i'll just evaporate it, scrape, and get to my next trial extraction. this was my first one, so i'm still learning. appreciate the help!

someone also told me that i probably overheated it and destroyed the DMT which was why i was worried. but i heated the naptha/dmt indirectly via near-boiling water, which is what every TEK has said to do...

no problem! with whitish crystal recrystallization can go either way. if it's clean enough, even room temperature solvent will dissolve everything. the trick is the least amount of solvent possible at the ideal temperature for the quality of crystal you are cleaning. not an exact science quite yet haha. as for over heating, shouldn't be the case. crystal has been observed precipitating out of solvent that's been boiled.
