DMT salt solubility in Isopropyl alcohol?

Migrated topic.

Hi, I heard of this monkey named Lenny who used the poor man's tek (Welcome to the DMT-Nexus extract some DMT for oral use, and he was wondering about the last step:
straight from the tek: "The oil after several minutes of mixing with the acidic water is removed and added back to the original basic bark mixture. This process is repeated a total of three times, each time using the same oil and each time "steeping" for an hour or so. Also each time the oil is removed fresh acidic water is used and at the end combined.

(If a salt of dmt is desired , say for oral use, then at this point, after the oil is removed, the water is allowed to evaporate and the remaining material washed with acetone to yeild beautiful salted dmt crystals)
"

Lenny wants to know if isopropyl alcohol could be used here instead of acetone, and if that basically means taking the leftovers from the evaporated water, dissolving them in the alcohol and discarding any residue? Sorry for the noob question, but this is only Lenny's 2nd attempt at an extraction, the first of which was with the same tek only into freebase smoking form, which was awesome. Any help would be appreciated.

@endlessness - So in this particular tek should Lenny just skip the last step and take what's left over from the acidic water evaporation and use that in his ayahuasca brew, say mixed in some water or juice?

Yeah after salting the oil, that product could be consumed orally, dissolving in a bit of water or juice (only enough for a sip because it will taste bad), or depending how dry it is, then encapsulate it.

The issue I see though is that considering it will not be very pure and in salt form and oily, maybe it will be hard to measure the ammount. So if you consume orally, either find a way to weigh (weigh container before and after, or whatever), or make some calculation depending on how much mimosa you had in the first place, considering it is between 1-2% dmt, and before all the acidic water is all evapped, divide it in according estimated number of dosages and evap/drink dosages separately.

By the way all of this im talking about it theoretically considering the oil you are using does pull dmt well. I have never tried extracting dmt using cooking oil. With something like orange oil/limonene or any typical non-polar solvent it would work perfectly. IIRC people seemed to have more success with canola oil and less so with olive oil?

Good luck

Yeah, Lenny figured the dosing may be a little tricky, but he does know this oil(canola) pulls the dmt well, having used the same tek to obtain a good yield in freebase form. Thanks for the advice; it's much appreciated. The nexus in general -which I'm very new to- has been an amazing wealth of knowledge. I'm looking forward to learning more and getting to the point where I can give back. Godspeed.

Something i like to do when salting out dmt with an acid that won't evap off (citric, fumaric, etc) is to weigh the Acid before hand, salt 3x and know how much acid was in that volume of water, then evap the lot.

Weigh your end product, after washing with iso or acetone if you want, and subtract how much fumaric acid you added from the final weight. If its around %20-25 (this is only for fumaric acid, citrate and others will be a different %) of the total weight, then you can assume its reasonably pure.

If its over %20-25 by weight the amount of fumaric acid you used to salt, its either impurities, or excess acid. Both of which can be removed by dry acetone or iso washes. You can then redissolve it in a minimal amount of distilled water, evaporate it, scrap up and harden/crystalize the translucent goo, powder it and re-wash. Do that 3x, and it won't be getting any cleaner.

Put simply, dmt in solvent + known weight of fumaric acid + distilled water (no residue/extra weight) = x amount of fumaric acid + dmt and impurities. Pure dmt fumarate should be around %25 fumaric acid, and %75 dmt roughly. Do some math, and it should be a reasonably accurate way to judge the purity of fasw dmt fumarate.

IE, 200mg of fumaric acid was used to salt, and 850mg of off white dmt fumarate was the end product after washing. Its safe to assume its fairly pure.

As well, when evapping, dmt fumarate will take a long time to crystallize, and fumaric acid will crash out sooner. If your evap dish is showing crystals before it turns into a viscous concentrated dmt-fumarate solution its extra fumaric acid crystals and not dmt-fumarare. Dmt fumarate ime drys to a clearish thick goo, and upon scraping/spreading will fully harden/crystalize fairly quick, and will be dry after only a few mins of scraping.
