Dude.... Anybody who has not read this, and is even remotely interested any sort of altered states of conscienious needs to read this book, or even better, print out this .pdf, and read it, because it will blow you away. Strassman makes some pretty wild claims, but even if you take his hypothesis' out, the scientific observation/reporting done in the intial 2/3 of the book it worth reading.
Hey, my 1st post here. I've read up to about 2/3's of the book so far and I can't believe all the trouble he went thru just to get his research approved... The gov't is really insane, scheduling all these drugs as "no significant medical application" while they might be THE KEY to understanding our brain function and conscioussness and how everything ties in together... Anyway, just wanted to pop in and say hi.

True! Ofcourse the people in power just want us to keep on consuming and not to think about anything else. Everything that opens up your mind is a no-no for these people. BTW. This book is amazing and a must read for all serious explorers.I haven't used DMT yet but I feel more confident to do so after reading.
What I found most interesting is that the Buddhists treated him even more harshly than the govt. I guess nobody likes a simple organic molecule to cut in on their action.

People will consume because that is what is presented in right in front of them as an easy reward to their slavery. Other things, like freedom, are locked away or hidden by the tyrants. We are taught to consume from birth, even more so nowadays. Of course we all need to consume to a point as we have this body that keeps getting hungry and cold and sometimes sick or damaged. Those needs need to be met completely, obviously. Oh and music is a good thing too, but perhaps without MTV 
It is a shame how things have turned out. And I mean SHAME. The nasty bullies have control and they manipulate the masses into keeping themselves there (or in some cases just scare the masses into keeping them there .i.e thank you for not hitting me). It's the same in just about every culture and pretty much always has been. People, like us, that use these kinds of drugs tend to end up thinking in a certain way and living a certain way and that is what worries the dictators and tyrants of the world. It just isn't efficient for their system to have the world full of that kind of thought. The current system needs expansion to work well. It needs MORE people to want MORE stuff and companies to always make MORE and get bigger and bigger It must expand, that is how it works (or doesn't). Sure there has been some advantages of the current age, related to health, knowledge and other of life's needs. I mean atleast we know our place in the physical universe and don't have the Church dictating what we must believe in that area, but at the same time it is clear that the current system is excessive and simply can't last, nor should it. It's time for a new age where we use the science, knowledge and technology we have obtained to free ourselves rather than inslave ourselves. It really is a violation of our human rights to be faced with the hell of a prison because we choose to put a natural substance in our body to try and free ourselves from the bonds of our mind and resolve some questions and confusion we have in a world in which we are all lost and searching. Apparently our consciousness is owned by these tyrants, so that they have the right to tell us what we can do with it and what we can't. If that is not a violation of a human right, then I don't know what is. The same people that tell us we can't do this are the same people that sell us (well put 50 - 60% tax on the sale of) the mind dulling DRUG alcohol and the useless addictive killer drug nicotine. Funnily enough you always hear the phrase Drugs and Alcohol, as if Alcohol isn't a drug ! I'm sure that if all drugs where legal, there would be alot less abuse of the really nasty ones, especially with proper education and social acceptance and support of psychedelic drugs. There could be specially trained Psychedelic Therapists who one could go and see if one was in trouble or needed guidance related to their experiences or other organizations that one could join for support and guidance etc etc. We could also have pure safe sources of drugs with non harmful administration methods. The world would be a better place, it really, truly would Maybe one day ?

I also think that a lot of *us*, as you said, think in this way. The question for me is always: what the hell are we to do about it? I mean, we somehow need to band together and *do* something about this mess! The problem is, a lot of us are in the survival trap, where you have to spend a large portion of my time working just to pay the rent and feed the family. This is of course exactly what the ruling elite want (threat to bio-survival in a society of excess), since it keeps the thinking people who aren't in the power-game too busy to actually do anything about this situation. Anybody read "When Corporations Rule the World" by Korten? I started it awhile ago but have been distracted by work (bio-survival threat mentioned above). I haven't gotten to the good parts yet, but in the intro he says that one of his goals in writing that book was to outline an alternative course of action. -z

There are entire (small) communities of people who coexist and share meals, grow their own foods, help take care of each others children, etc... These groups live in small neighborhoods . They don't buy expensive goods, clothing, appliances, etc... or have a lot of bills. Living this way frees up more time for them to spend with their families or doing things they enjoy! I heard one woman claim that she could support her whole family with $7,000 a year! It's possible but if you were to do this you would have to be frugal! Maybe some day us entheogen enthusiasts could band together and form small communities like this! I mean this isn't like hippy communes. A little more geared toward the family element but I'm sure we ( entheogen enthusiasts) could modify such a community to suit our needs and wants! When I saw this "Voluntary Simplicity" idea, I was floored! I think it's an extremely effective way to slow down the behemoth know as consumerism and capitalism let alone the corporatizing forces in this country! With out all these corporations digging in at "The Hill", we might have more of a chance to free our self from this quaint little slavery we are so familiar with! We need a form of government called " Direct Democracy". F*@K "Representative democracy"! It doesn't work very well, as any numb minded, half wit can see! As far as I can see, the best way to beat this system is to disconnect your self from it as much as you possibly can! Quit buying things you can make your self, like food for example or clothing, maybe even fule (bio-diesel). I mean look at most of us, we are a pretty self sufficient lot, growing or own sustainable supply of entheogens and processing them our selves! We have all the gumption and determination already there, even the organization! I've been dreaming about building a small community of self sustaining homes that are off the grid, it would be nice to put this together one day and have a small community of like minded individuals sharing the responsibilities and tasks required to maintain the community as well as a love of entheogens and their peripheral concerns... Just my 2 cents!

hey, it's good to find like minded people How to change the world ? I don't think there is any easy answer. It will take a paradigm shift in the thinking of the general population. Stuff like global warming, running out of oil could actually help create a shift in some ways (but probably not in relation to the 'drugs are bad' brainwashed attitude towards drugs). Somehow getting some people with a drop of wisdom into power might just help to. In the meantime we must exist within the cracks. I'm on the tread mil myself, well and truly. There was once years ago when I was almost free from society and lived in a tent and picked fruit for money. That would be one of the best times in my life, some of it spent solitary and some with other like minded people in camps. My mind was free and it was a wonderful thing. I would recommend that lifestyle to anyone. Communes can be good, but they still operate within the laws of the system. Cops can target the entire group and get everyone at once or they can just ignore the group to the point that if you have some problem, like a theft or even just a dispute with someone in the group they simply won't help.

I agree, but the beauty of this idea is that it is geared toward some one in such a "forced simplicity" any way. Hell! I'm not rich. I live a pretty simple life (materially). Not as simple as my previous post stated but I'm striving for that goal. Yes there are people who need help and there are people who won't help them selves. Who should we help? It's just one idea to change the system, and in my opinion, effectively! If you lived in such a community, you could be active in out reach to the community at large, even bring in some people in need. It's all up to those in said community. To me it sounds like back-peddling. we need to move forward in a simple manner (And the word I would use for that is efficient), as a whole, "without" segregation into ideological communities. modern capitalist ideals have already segregated humanity. The most efficient community would be sans segregation with everyone playing a small part (many hands make lite work or many hands make "light" work - [i:4ad8d32329]insert picture of cavemen making a fire[/i:4ad8d32329]). I'd like to believe that one day we will grow out of this social adolescence and live with each other peaceably and maturely. We may never make it there. At the rate and in the direction humanity is moving with the technology we have, we may destroy our selves before a true utopian society can come to fruition. Besides, what's wrong with like minded individuals sharing their interests with one another. Don't you think forcing people to interact with one another who share no real bonding in interests would cause some friction? People should be free to interact with one another on their own terms.

I can understand why the govt have made LSD or mushrooms illegal, as some people do some stupid things while under the influence. But DMT? Where it's almost impossible to even walk around while tripping? I mean by doing LSD you may be putting others at risk as there are people who are dumb enough to drive or roam in public on high doses, but DMT where the only person at any sort of risk is yourself, I find that so stupid. Thankyou for this book, It will be an interesting read, i'll get started tonight.
