Does anybody know why voldemort doesn't have a nose?

Why doesn't the dark lord have a nose? In the movies, he definately had a nose when he was still tom riddle. He must have lost it somewhere along the way.

Did he use it to make yet another horcrux?
Did nagini, his snake ate it by accident? You know how hungry snakes can be.
