Is .5 gram on a yocan evolve plus xl a large dose? My break-throughs have been God level.

Yes, unless you are overheating and wasting most of it, that is ten times what's generally considered a blackout dose of 0.05 grams.

.5g is a pile of spice. It's a whole 1% yield extraction on 50g of bark. OP, assuming you meant .05, try using .03 next time. With an efficient vaporization technique it should get you to a similar place with less wasted.
I can be in a nice sub breakthrough at like 15-20 mg in my yocan evolve plus. I have never tried it yet for larger doses. I’m planning to get an orbit though because I think it will be more efficient at quickly vaping larger amounts.

Yes, I didnt realize dosage. Ive used a 2 liter and foil in the past. I dont think I've ever done all of it in one go. 2-4 long hits have all Ive done. My l
Im not confused. Nor am I suggesting anyone do same. I did 2 and 4 pulls and reached desired effect plus a trillion. I certainly do not want to promote anything dangerous. Its not for everyone for sure.
It is very likely that you're smoking it in a very inefficient way, then. That you put it inside the yocan doesn't automatically mean that all of it reaches your lungs, at least as DMT.

There's "dose" which is how much gets in you and "load" which is how much you put in your vape device.
Ideally you want those two figures to be as similar as possible by efficient vaporising without overheating and decomposing any of the load.
It sounds like you can't be getting the full dose from that load as it would guarantee a blackout "can't remember anything about what happened" experience, in fact one tenth of what you loaded should result in blackout.
So try only putting 30mg in there and feathering the vape button to moderate the amount of heat you're putting in. The yocan evolve plus xl seems to have no power control settings and so will absolutely overheat and waste DMT if the button is just held down for as long as you are toking on it. They build these things for cannabis products that are much less sensitive to heat than DMT.

I don’t think my yocan evolve could handle 500 mg. It would just puddle up and not vape fast enough for sure. I do not use this vape for doses beyond like 20mg personally because I know how it responds to too much cannabinoids at once. Still I don’t think a breakthrough would be too hard to have with this pen. 500mg could be like 20 breakthroughs honestly.
Just my opinion , I think the yocan evolve isn't the best for DMT , it's exposed elements gets too hot to fast and
is harsh on the mouth and probably waists most of it .
It's cheap for a reason, I would pay more for one with a ceramic bowl .

Max I go is 60-70mg in each vape, sometimes x 2 machines, in one sitting . And that's way enough for the seasoned.

It has ceramic donut coils you just have to buy them separately.

Weird combination. It sounds like you intentionally went for a dose more than ten times the recommended amount, somehow accidentally, and then thankfully got an experience that wasn't terrible.
I suppose my question here is one that others might also have for you: Do you intend on trying this again, knowing what you know now?

I think people should consider the reality of these pens…they aren’t going to blast you off the way the machine for instance will. Even with ceramic coils etc. When I first got into it I was using changa in a bong, then moved on to making metal mesh balls from steel wool and stuff like that and then dripping DMT into that, inside of a glass tube attached to a bong. It’s hard to match that with a pen IME. I’m just not looking to get so blasted I’m trying to put the pieces together after anymore. I’d rather preload with psilocybin or LSD microdoses and some harmalas and lightly vape my way into where I want to go. These types of pens are good for that. Not so good at blasting yourself into oblivion in a single go unless maybe it’s 5-MeO-DMT.
