Would it be possible to use a hot air gun to evaporate the 99% IPA more quickly? Would this have any negative effect on the alkaloids?

My notion is that using a blow dryer or whatever wouldn't affect the potency at all, but of course there are so many bits of information I need to learn.

I dont' know that using a blow drier is necessarily safe, but you could use a fan.

I've never had problems using heat, but I've never used a blow dryer. 99% IPA evaporates quickly, be patient

yeah, ill just go with short sweeping motions periodically at a low temperature, like 140.

i use time to evap my IPA, it works better than anything else i have tried 😉

I just place it near an open window most of the time and let it do its thing, but have used a hairdryer and also heat baths in the past - the heat bath seemed to work better actually.

I might add if you leave by an open window then you want to cover it with something that won't allow dust and flying bugs to get in. Someone mentioned a shirt with a rubber band(s) holding in place. Or rag / cheese cloth / paper (taped)

If it's covered with a shirt or rag, how is the alcohol supposed to evaporate out? Does it just get stuck in the shirt? Wouldn't putting the shirt/rag on it slow down the evap process?

The cloth of a shirt has many holes in it allowing airflow that arent visible to the naked eye. Basically there is still room for airflow through the shirt cloth but not room for particles like dust to go through. It does slow down evap process but gives more pure evaporation.

Alcohol as a gas can easily pass through a shirt covering the solution. If you want an example just try blowing air through a single layer of shirt cloth, you can still feel alot of flow. 8)

If you're ever curious about the dangers of 99%alcohol put a 1/8 tsp in a glass bottle and swirl it around. Make sure you hold the match with some tongs and a oven mitten if you're extra cautious. Fun stuff.
