I just read a bit about an endogenous human neurotransmitter called Pinoline or 6-MeO-THBC. Apparently its made by the pineal and has been shown to have MAOI activity. I checked the wikipedia on the internet machine and it looks like its molecular structure is remarkably similar to harmaline. I can't remember if I saw it as one of the compounds in Phalaris grass but it'd be interesting to find a source of it. Not that I'd expect anyone to know this but it'd be cool to find out if it's safe to ingest a decent amount and see if a pharma type experience could be generated using completely endogenous chemicals. Would make for some intersting dreams. If anyone has the ability to obtain or make some and the interst a bioassay would be cool.

Was just re-reading one of the articles I found on this and apparently it has been consumed at does up to 800mgs. The author also believes this chemical to be responsible for activating threshold amounts of DMT in the body.Pinoline and Harmalas

pinoline is very interesting... and it seems that there may actually be other MAOI in there as well but i don't have links on hand at the moment

Its odd and unfortunate that its not readily available to purchase like melatonin is, since it would be very interesting to try...and its supposedly a much more powerful anti-oxidant than even melatonin. I know one member here who has made some himself and consumed it, and noted how powerfully sedating it is (i forget what if any other effects he reported). I think this is probably one of the key chemicals behind others and my own harmala-esque experiences at night or during things like meditation.

Melatonin can also metabolize into pinoline... and on high doses of melatonin during meditation things can get pretty interesting.

I made a long post here to sort of summarize some of my thoughts on this area.

Do you have any idea on how difficult it was to make? The sedating aspect of it isn't surprising since I'd guess that it has some role in dreaming. Its endogenous origin also makes me think that it might be able to approximate the dream state closer than aya brews.

It was 6-MeO-2Me-THBC not 6-MeO-THBC(pinoline) that was found in phalaris arundinacea. Close though. It is definatly a pinoline analogue.

Both 10-methoxy-harmalan and Harman are endogenous beta carbolines. You can find Harman in rue in small ammounts. It is a major beta carboline in many passiflora species and present in Russian olive I think as well..and tribulus terrestris also.

I guess if your looking for a plant with endogenous beta carbolines as the main beta carboline portion passiflora would be ideal compared to rue and caapi. I don't know of any plant source that is a significant and clean source of pinoline. I have looked though. I have no idea what it's levels are in rue.
