does anyone have any experience using these awesome machines that run hot water through powdered plant material? 😁

i'm just wondering what works and what doesn't. i hear powdered mhrb is too fine and clogs it up.

Hard to take one for the team when these machines cost $600 to upwards of $20,000. I came across a bag of finely powdered Colombian coca leaf tea (legally sold on Amazon) the directions for which actually suggest using in espresso machines. The grind of the tea sure looks acceptable ... but no way.
Anyway, my espresso machine mindspace in no way overlaps with that of 7-pau-3-LVTD.

I don't see where the problem would be. Coffee ground for espresso machines is usually very fine, similar to powdered MHRB.

Contrary to the above statement, there are problems. I have tried the simple macchinetta espresso machine and it clogs bad time with powdered mhrb. It clogs that bad that the whole powder becomes a tough as a stone from the degree of compression it undergoes.

Rue works better, but not amazingly at all. Whole rue runs fine but it literally extracts 0% of its potential yield. Ground rue extracts ~40% of its potential yield in the first run, not very sufficient at all.

Espresso machine extraction sounds really good in theory and I fiddled with it a lot at some point, but in practice it is a very inefficient method.

I’ve also been thinking of this a bit recently. My electric machine is currently broken but I wonder if more coarsely ground MHRB would work in a moka/stove-top espresso pot.

Time to chat up a Starbuks barista late night to find out.

Dear Ms. Barista,

Um, if you aren’t too busy, I have a few questions for you. Say, for hypothetical reasons, that I had a heap of purple dye. I wonder if the good people at Starbucks could perhaps tell me if it were indeed feasible to produce my purple dye using an espresso machine such as your own? And if so, what is the correct time and temperature? Are there any extra filters needed? How do you suppose this machine would fare with harmalas? What about cactus? Could I use it for cappuccino afterwards? Because I don’t wanna ruin it for that. Please, be specific.

Thanks,
WR

P.S. If I wanted to froth my ayahuasca, would that be a problem?...I'm a glutton for foam.

I have not tried mine for this purpose, but the contact with water is too short in time to get a decent yield from any plant material needing 20+ minute boils to extract from. The contact time of water with coffee in my machine does not exceed 30 seconds and perhaps 1 minute if I am more than patient pulling the lever down.
