Evaporation of Toluene with a infrared heat lamp

I've been trying to extract some red spice using toluene and as it has to be evaporated rather than freeze precipitated I wanted to check to see if there would be any problem with using an infrared heat lamp to speed up the evaporation process? I'm thinking of using an older version of this and would have it a foot or more from the tolouene (don't want to risk a fire) but would either the heat or the infra red light degrade the red dmt? Similarly would it degrade normal DMT? Thanks

I don't think it would degrade DMT as long as the temp is below 50 degree but there are high risks of fire with the toluene vapors hitting the electric resistance ! My friend found that a water bath heating, with a fan close to it do the job very well.

I think a fan would be a better option. It's risky to heat up solvents. They become much more flammable. That lightbulb might even trigger an explosion. My two cents. I wouldn't do it. Unless I could afford to burn down my house.

i evaped about 700 mili of xylene in about 24 hrs with no heat just a small fan on high and that is supposed to evap slower i dont think the heater is neccesary especially with the fire risks but let us know about you final product

I may give it some time just with the fan & try to evap off enough wihout the lamp as there is the fire risk. If it's evaporating as quickly as quick as for you Big Inhale I won't bother with the lamp, but if its too slow I'll try the lamp - though with a fan for the vapours. I'll let you know how it goes but I've not separated the Tolouene from the MHRB base yet.

[i:84cd413244]flick[/i:84cd413244] ... BOOM! ... ! out go the lights ! ... although a spark from a fan-motor could do it too, try both fan and IR-heat ! All risks aside, I'd say the moving-air trick does more 'work' at evaporating than some IR absorbed heat could.
