evaporation times?

Please please please do not put your saturated/under saturated heptane anywhere near an operating stove top! The liquid and vapors are extremely flammable! I would hate to hear about someone burning down their house accidentally due to something that can easily be avoided.
I would recommend putting your heptane in a glass container with a large surface area since you have 1000ml to cut in half or so. Place that in a warm room with an optional standard fan blowing on it (not sure if that kind of air flow would cause any oxidation, I really haven't noticed any oxidation using this method). Having some general air circulation/ventilation (ceiling fan on low) is probably better than a fan directly blowing on it
As for a time frame, I'd say just keep an eye on it. Check every hour or so if possible because it may take a few hours to half a day or more depending on ambient conditions.

An entire litre of heptane is AlOT to evap.
Be absolutely sure you have adequate ventillaion & do not let the fumes accumulate in an enclosed area.

Under no circumstances should you evaporate a non-polar solvent in an open container, this will make you sick, it's not worth the health hazard. Unless you have a vacuum pump and chiller to condense the fumes before going into the vacuum pump, don't do it.
Your only reasonable option is to extract the non-polar solvent (heptane) with 1N HCl, separate, then add 1N NaOH solution to the aqueous HCl solution to precipitate the freebase DMT which can then be filtered out.

I've had good success evaporating aqueous solutions using an arrangement thus:
* Place solution in a wide dish (e.g. pyrex baking dish) on top of (optional) a reptile heating mat.
* Use a fine metal mesh (frying pan splatter guard works well) to cover the dish. This helps keep out random flying debris.
* Cut a hole in the bottom of a cheap plastic bucket and fit a computer fan inside so that the air flow is upwards through the bucket.
* Place the fan bucket on top of the mesh and switch it and the heating mat (if used) on.
* Diligently await results.
I would NOT use this for evaporating a litre of heptane, maybe 20mL or so of ethanol or IPA in a well ventilated area.
Shame the OP was deleted, is the old version of this thread archived somewhere?
