Extraction trouble A/B method. What went wrong?

First of all, thanks for reading. This was the first attempt to extract from the mimosa hostilis, but something seems to be going wrong. I've followed the guide as posted in the 'dmt handbook' but when I reached to the point of adding 'shellite' (in this case: White spirit/Naphta), the two layers didn't seperate out the way I hoped they would. Instead of a nice oily layer, there were more or less three layers. The first was oily, but it was only minimal. The second was laying on top of the water, but it's brownish. The last layer seems to be the basified solution.

So what went wrong? Why is there a brownish layer instead of a nice oily one? I'll post the picture below, maybe it helps out.

sounds like you may have shaken it too much.. an emulsion might have formed

oh.. didn't even notice the pick. it looks like that might be the case. you could try giving it a hot water bath or add mroe base and see if it clears
did you pull with turpentine? i don't have experience with it for pulling but its possible it might have something to do with it ...anyone?

Actually it's white spirit, in dutch it's called "terpentine". I'm putting it in a hot water bath, see if that works out.

We have a winner!

Added 500ml and 100gr of NaOH (was 1,5L with 125g of bark and ±25gr of NaOH), heated it up in a nice bath and *bang*, it separated out real smooth.

Thanks for pointing out the FAQ, only noticed the one on the front site, not the wiki one. It's really helpful, thanks.
