Excuse me if this isn't in the right place but after a good bit of lurking this is finally my first post. I never thought I'd really be needing to ask for any help since practically everything is already out there and I've read just about it all.. but here I am.

My first question is what do you guys use to scrape the inside of your jars after freeze precipitating? This has been a problem for me for a very long time now.

Also last night I filtered a good quantity of dmt through a coffee filter and let it sit out overnight to dry. When I checked on it this morning there was nothing left but some residue on the filter that smells of dmt. The room may have gotten a bit warm although I'm not sure since I was asleep but from what I've gathered spice melting usually happens with impure product and this was some clean white freeze precipitated crystal. Now a little while ago I attempted it again but I planned not to leave it unattended for so long that it could melt again. I grab another precipitating jar out of the freezer and turn to hold it up to the light to see how its doing. When I turn back around and check on the crystals sitting in the filter they're gone. Fucking gone. I repeat this one more time for the sake of science only this time I try and get the still wet dmt out of the filter as soon as possible and into a pan to further evaporate but there was hardly anything left by that point. I believe my coffee filters may be absorbing my dmt. Anybody know what I can do besides getting new filters? Should I try and grow larger crystals? Can I cut out the piece of filter containing all the dmt and soak it in naphtha or something to try and reclaim it? Anybody want to walk me through their personal process step by step? I've only attempted to freeze precipitate once before and it worked out fine then other than trying to figure out how to scrape the inside of a tiny jar but the crystals then were a good bit larger.

Any body got any ideas?

The same thing would happen to swims friend everytime he tried to filter it, he was left with nothing, I think it has something to do with coffee filters not allowing the naptha to fully pass thru, so it starts to redissolve the crystals.

One way to avoid this is to just skip the filter process. When you freeze it the crystals attatch pretty securely to the bottom and the sides. So when swim is ready to collect the crystals he takes it straight out of the freezer, immediately dumps remaining naptha into a separate jar. (there may still be some goodies in there) Keep the crystals attatched in the bowl, or jar or what have you... Then just continue to dry, keeping the jar or bowl at an angle, on top of the same jar you just dumped the excess into, so any remaining naptha draining from around the crystals will drain down into the jar underneath.

A fan speeds this up a considerable amount of time. So i guess basically swim uses a draining method instead of filtering. Swim just finds that it allows all the naptha to be removed from the crystals without it redissolving them. Anyway hope that helps.

Hey you're right I did notice that it was taking a while for the naphtha to drain through and it would eventually just pool. So I'm guessing it really has just absorbed into the coffee filters. Anybody have any ideas how to get it out?

So what do you do with the second jar of solvent that you poured out of the precipitation jar? I find that there is a large amount of crystal that floats around and doesn't stick to the jar so unless you want to just waste it then you have to filter it some time.

Good advice from kushmaster, although fans make me nervous. Definitely drain off the unsaturated NPS and collect in a separate container. One thing that I do is use a fine tip transfer pipette to pull the little bit left which collects in the corners of the jar containing the crystals when you tip it; this will speed up the drying quite noticeably. I would take all that collected NPS, evap, and then freeze precip.

You should be able to dry the product in mere minutes with less than a mg lost to the filter, which would most likely be predominantly composed of contaminates anyway. I use conical coffee filters, though I have used standard ones with plenty of success; conical filters will dry it quicker, allow you to keep track of it better, and make it extremely easy to transfer the product into your storage container. I try to roll it around in the filter a little til it's dry enough to trust that it won't get mashed into the filter, then I'll let it sit for a short while.

The stuff floating around isn't worth your time to filter, since it's so light and fluffy, making it a real pain in the ass to transfer and keep track of. Your better off dissolving it back in and trying again after evap.

The goal of drying is to get the the naphtha off the product before it heats up enough to dissolve the product.

Just use a flat glass plate for your freeze precip, cover it with some plastic wrap. After it cools off, just pour the solvent off the crystals that'll stick to the plate. pour the solvent right back into the solution, and recover what else it might suspend along with an additional pull. If your worried about your final amount of solvent left from your freeze precip, evap it and see what it holds. No need to filter crystals out. After you pour off as much as you can, place the plate on an ice bath, uncovered, so it stays cold while the remaining solvent evaps away.

dont filter; you'll loose it. I often try and fail lol.
decant it carefully and then dry off the glass via usual evapping.

Also, I use a plastic credit card type thing and a bluntish knife.
if you want, roll a little drop of naptha round collecting it all
and then evap that.

shoe: rolling a drop of naphtha around and evaping sounds brilliant.

kushmaster has it right, dont use a filter. crystals stick to the inside of glass.

getting dmt residue out of coffee filter may require you to, run warm naphtha through it and precip the naphtha.
is there enough spice in the filter to make it worth your time?

Thanks for the help guys, I've gotten a few useful tips. In my experience not all of the crystals stick to the jar and filtering is required. I get about 50-150mg of crystals floating around in the naphtha and I feel that's worth an attempt. I'll try running warm naphtha through the filters and yes there is a ton in them. Practically all of my yield from two precipitations was lost to those filters. You can see it all crystalline and whatnot.
