failed Phalaris Arundinacea extraction

Migrated topic.

I recently tried to do a phalaris extraction, but got nothing.

I collected some phalaris leaves at sunrise. The pot is pretty big but someone on mycotopia said maybe this is not enough material.

So I blended the leaves, cooked with vinegar (tested the pH too, it was around 4 I think), and reduced until I got this.

Then I did a couple of defats with naphtha. I pulled out the emulsion layer too, cuz I thought it was the fats >.<

I proceeded with basifying, using NaOH (my pH test strip only went as far as 12 but I'm pretty sure I basified enough). After that I pulled again with naphtha and let it vaporize. It didn't leave anything behind.

Here's the solution after defats and pulls

Was the naphtha supposed to be warm? I think I remember reading something about warm naphtha. Mine was not..

NaOH (lye) is needed in order to make the DMT soluble in naphtha. vaporize = evaporate I think. Next time I will use dry grass but fresh grass can be used as well. I am following the thread you linked to, glad to see people experimenting with phalaris.

That grass wasn't fuzzy, wuzzy?

I've had better results by way of...
-Dry/Powder the leaves
-Acidify over low heat with vinegar
-Reduce and defat (keep the interface layer, 'vap off the naptha and toss it back in)
-Basify with lime overnight
-Naptha wash in a crockpot on low/med heat.

You'd be better off with just evaporating the Naptha, unless you defat like a SAVAGE.
