Hey everyone,
This is my first post on DMT Nexus, and I wanted to share some of my first experiences with DMT. I've had several intense sessions so far, and although some of them were fascinating, I'm still trying to make sense of what happened and understand what I'm actually looking for.
About me
To give you a bit of context about where I’m coming from: I’m not entirely new to altered states of consciousness. I have multiple experiences with psilocybin mushrooms and have maintained a consistent, long-term meditation practice, which includes completing a 10-day silent Vipassana retreat. My primary motivation has always been a deep curiosity about the ultimate truth of existence. I went into this experience hoping that this substance might help me gain a deeper understanding or a new perspective on the nature of reality.
Setup
I'm using a vape containing 750 mg of DMT in 2 ml of liquid. During my sessions, I've taken several long inhalations, sometimes holding each one for around 5 seconds. I've experimented with different amounts, but my experiences have varied a lot.
The first experience – Love and a glimpse beyond
After two long hits, I felt an incredibly beautiful feeling – absolute love, perfection and completeness. I remember thinking: "This is how everyone should feel. Maybe this is what we're actually here for."
I considered taking more, but that state was so beautiful that I didn't. When the effects faded, I decided to go further. After several more long hits, the experience became much more intense. It felt like the top of my skull was opening, like my crown chakra, and a strange DMT hyperspace emerged. I saw countless eyes everywhere, looking at me, and enormous pillars of light. I felt like something was trying to pull my soul out of my body, but then my memories of what happened next became fragmented. When I opened my eyes, I had the sense that everything was just a game – I was still here, but as an avatar. It felt like I had lived my whole life in a dream and was only now waking up for the first time. This was the most meaningful experience I've had so far.
Another time, I took around six strong hits, expecting something intense. Surprisingly, almost nothing happened. I just experienced a mild meditative state, despite having taken a lot. I eventually took a break and tried again after a couple of weeks.
During a later session, after 3–4 large hits, I encountered strange humanoid figures. They didn't have recognizable eyes, noses or ears. They held their hands to the sides of their heads, as if covering their ears, and were screaming. I seemed to move from one figure's mouth into the next, then into another, over and over.
At some point, one of them moved its hands apart, like opening something (horizontally, one hand up, one hand down), and a new cage-like structure opened. I kept moving through these cages, one after another. It wasn't a positive or negative experience – I wasn't afraid, just a neutral observer, watching something strange unfold.
Finally, in my most recent session, I saw what people call the DMT Jester. At first, it felt like he was opening another cage for me. After that, he seemed to do tricks or things to entertain me. But I didn't care about any of it. I wanted deeper insights – about myself, the universe, and the nature of reality. It felt pointless, and I eventually let the effects fade.
Afterwards, I tried again, hoping to reach a real breakthrough. I inhaled repeatedly, but I always end up in the same state: intense vibrations in my head, a loud ringing or high-pitched buzzing sound, and the DMT space – but never the feeling of crossing that threshold. I'm not sure what else I could do to get there as I feel like it's not possible to dose higher with my setup and I wonder if the difference between a powerful experience and a breakthrough is as clear-cut as people say.
What I've taken away:
The biggest insight for me came from the first trip: that our ordinary reality might be temporary, and that we could be much more than just our physical bodies. I got the sense that I might be a much more enduring being than the person I usually identify as. I don't know if this is a fundamental truth or just the way my mind interpreted the experience, but it genuinely changed the way I think about existence.
My later sessions haven't given me the same insights. Instead, I've encountered strange figures, repetitive structures and seemingly theatrical interactions. I'm still trying to understand why these experiences differ so much and what, if anything, I'm supposed to take away from them.

- Have any of you repeatedly reached an intense DMT state without feeling a breakthrough? How do you distinguish a breakthrough from a powerful but incomplete experience?
- Has anyone encountered screaming humanoid figures or the Jester opening cage-like structures? Did these experiences eventually make sense to you, or did they remain strange and meaningless?
- Has anyone ever communicated with other entities in these states?
