First Extraction Results

My friend has been performing his first extractions, small 50g "experiments", over the past couple of weeks...

He was very disappointed as he weighed his final product, a mixture of white and yellow sugar, and found it contained only about 70mg per extraction. :?:

He was no longer disappointed once he discovered that his tired mind was screwing up the metric conversion - he yielded almost 1.6g total for the last two 50g extractions combined - on to recrystallization!

Used Norman's tek with some modifications - pulls were 24hrs each with the last pull lasting about 48 hrs.

When you say pulls were 24 hours each does that mean the naphtha sat there on the top layer for 24 hours? Cuz I always figured its only pulling Dmt during the few minutes its mixed into the Mimosa solution, and once it finishes separating its not doing anything anymore. I'm still kinda new at all this so I could be wrong.

I was agitating it every hour when I was awake, allowing it to separate, agitating again, etc.

I had read somewhere on here that if you're not heating the naptha that it can be helpful to be more patient with the pulls.

I see. I agitate mine and let separate 3 or 4 times over the course of about 30 minutes before pulling it out. My yields range from 1.2% to 1.6%. Has anyone actually tested how many agitations are actually necessary to get maximum results?

I was wondering that, I figured I'd err on the side of caution and be more patient.

Also, wondering how much DMT solvent can take on before being saturated...I overshot with that too and evaporated before precipitating.

Running into a problem with evaporating my leftover solvent after freeze precipitation...evapped most of it down to tiny droplets on the glass pan with a very strong spice smell, but it won't finish drying? Anyone have this problem or a potential solution?

Keep scrapping/rescrapping and it should harden up into some yellow waxy product. Often its residual solvent/plant oils keeping the whole thing as an oil but insisting a bit should dry it further, and then you can recrystallize if you want. Or just straight away recrystalliz this oil if you want, or infuse some herbs with it (Weigh the herbs before and after to know how much it is).

It could also be that its a bit of dmt n-oxide, and that wont crystallize nor come across in a recrystallization.. The goo that's left in a recrystallization is usually active, containing at least some dmt or n-oxide, but also containing other impurities so certainly harsher to smoke (not recommended to use this unless you at least did a sodium carb wash, and use a propper vaporization method). If you had very little dmt/plant source and wanted to get every last bit, I guess you could infuse some herbs with the re-x leftover goo for some active smoke. Not my way but I would understand if someone did.

I should scrape this liquid? What I'm looking at is literally liquid droplets stuck to the surface of the pan, yellowish in tint. I am preparing to recrystallize the rest of the sugar anyway, so would it work to place a little heated solvent on the pan and pour it into a shotglass?

I did not perform any washes, sodium carbonate or otherwise.

For me purity is more important than yield - probably not going to smoke this stuff without recrystalling

Warm up some naphtha (boil water, turn fire off, submerge bottom of container containing naphtha in the hot water), use a small amount on the plate with yyour liquid droplets, and into the freezer again (or evaporate slowly in another pan).

Your not entirely wrong actually. Most of the transfer of spice from the aqueous to the organic phases occurs during agitation, but even while the layers are separated some spice makes it to the interface and crosses over. Also, even though the layers may seem separated, it can take several hours for some of the trapped molecules to make it back to the top. I agitate mine about once an hour for an entire day for my second pull, and two for my third, but my first usually just four or five times then let seperate. With the first I wait six hours before pulling after my last agitation. With the second and third pulls I let them sit overnight so the separation can have time to completely happen. Even so there will be some of each layer left over in the other, this is unavoidable. Chemists use tricks to make it as little an issue as possible. If they want to remove water from an organic solution after one of these washes, they make a solution of salt that is very salty, this is called having a high ionic strength. This makes the water "thirsty" and so when this is mixed again with the organic solution and allowed to separate, much less water is left behind. The effectiveness is clear when you then further dry with a drying agent like magnesium sulfate, and it takes about a tenth as much with the solution that has been washed with the brine versus the one that has not. I used to teach organic chemistry lab and saw that many times when students forgot to do there last wash with the salty water. Bottom line though, you were pretty much right, the solutions have to be mixed in order for the organic solvent to "grab" the spice out of the basic solution.

Whats up yall,

Anyone ever see dmt that looks kinda like Pine pollen/Bee pollen.Made from Peru roots.. Its VERY intense stuff. I was Laying flat on the floor after 4min into my session, After it had crept up from my lower back all the way up my spine,my whole entire body, all at once was vibrating to the music I had playing. Or atleast trying to match the HZ/Freq of the song played.

The main question is the pollen look to the dmt I have. I seen amber crystals, white powder etc. but no pollen look till now. Ive only done it once so I am a newb, but not to psychedelics.
