first extraction - success

Migrated topic.

just some quick notes and a question on my friend's first extraction. lazyman's tek on 1lb MHRB powder. the most difficult part was pouring off the naphtha. for some reason the layers ran through the sep funnel together so he ended up just pouring off from a small thin bottle. it wasn't so hard once he had done it a couple of times.

the first photo shows some of the result (first pull), along with a tab of 100mg of some two year old yellow/amber colored rocky spice from another friend. it was that color when acquired. it hasn't darkened at all, and is still very potent.

anyway, the second photo shows some green along the top edge of the precip vessel. does anyone know what the green is? my friend got rid of that part.

the subsequent pulls were increasingly yellow and were more powdery and dense than the first run. it's all good.

this was surprisingly easy, considering my friend has no chemistry experience. he just read here and followed the directions. yielded over 2.5 grams of beautiful white/yellow crystals.

thanks and blessings to all who have shared knowledge here.

the yellow could be n-oxide or tannins. im not too sure how to differentiate those 2 yet im sure someone else could though. if you want cleaner whiter spice you can do a sodium carbonate wash or re-x. awesome job looks nice ;D

hey PerPLexED,

thanks for your reply. yeah, i thought of washing but the yellow is good for me too. i also liked the old amber rocky stuff.

anyone else have an idea what the green is?

yeah, the pic isn't very good. that line around the edge of the vessel in the second pic goes from white to yellow to deep green against the glass. anyway, he didn't save that part. naphtha was used.

it's gone now. it was a couple of weeks ago. in any case, friend was pleased with yield, color, texture of the spice he got.
