First Rue Extraction In Progress (Tao of Rue)

Hey guys, long time lurker here. I've extracted from MHRB once and since I've got some more on the way I thought I should hurry up and extract some Harmine and Harmaline. Pharmahuasca is kinda my thing lately and changa was a great starting point in smoalking for me.

First, didn't grind the seeds. Blended with "cleaning" vinegar and water in an old school blender. A creamy white layer appeared and I regret not decanting it and giving it some further investigation... Into the pot! 4 boils with vinegar (stinky) using purified water except for the last pull which was tap water. The tap water seemed to introduce a green tinge to some of my tea. I am concerned. That pull has been seperated from the purified water pulls.

Anybody know what's up with that? Or is there a green tint to the tea in general (doesn't seem likely.)

What a great forum to be a part of. Extracting is such fun.

So, of course, I grossly overestimated my final product. I have 4 grams dried and 2-4 more drying right now.

Things I learned: Grind the seeds! There is no such thing as too much filtering in the beginning stages! Double check the directions! Buy a damn vaccuum pump!

Thanks everybody for your help and interest! I'll be reusing my seeds for a second extraction in the coming weeks and it'll probably go a lot smoother this time.

I learned differents things : don't grind the seeds and use a PC (pressure cooker) = good yield and low filtration even without vacuum pump. :p

3x30min (30min after the steam vent start to release pressure) is what i do and it's probably overkill, i guess 3x15min works well but i didn't try.

I put a dash of vinegar in water for the first pull and after i use just plain water but a small amount of acid is not a problem if you use a stainless PC.

A tip to reduce filtration and handle seeds more easily: the tea bag tek = put the seeds in a piece of cloth (cheese cloth or pillowcase e.g.) and pressure cook them like this. It's easier to collect water and you just need to press the bag of seeds to get the remaining liquid.

After i extract some seeds with a PC (yield 3,5%) i did an experiment with them:
- freeze and taw x3 and then coarsely squashed
- PC 3x20min
- yield 0,5%

My conclusion is to not add extra step like grinding or freeze&taw if you have a pressure cooker. Of course, it doesn't hurt but as syrian rue seeds are cheap and easily available i try to make easier than more efficient.
It wouldn't be my philosophy for a DMT extration, it would be efficiency first :p
