First time DMT

Hello everyone,

I have been lurking these forums for quite some time as an unregistered entity. Got a lot of great information regarding psychedelics from both here and the shroomery. Few months back had one of the most mind blowing experiences on Terrence McKenna's method of 5g cubensis in silent darkness and most definitely had a breakthrough. I achieved something I never thought was possible with just cubensis alone.

I have decided to step up to DMT. Been reading and researching a lot over the months and pulled the trigger on an order. Then I read one story on this forum about an evil experience. Searched this site, reddit and others further regarding these experiences and was blown away by how common this is. Has me a bit worried now. My questions is, for you experienced trippers, how common is this really? Is it recommended to do alone or with MAOIs. I am trying to have another great breakthrough like my shroom trip and if possible I don't want to be anal probed by Pennywise. Would a small dose of clonazepam help me to keep calm during a trip like it would with cubensis or LSD?

Interesting, was this with a "traditional" MAOI and DMT? I would love to listen to the podcast but it's almost 3 hours :shock:

I definitely do recommend MAOI, as I prefer the oral/ayahuasca route anyhow. My experience with vaped/smoked is very limited, but I find the experience much deeper and (obviously) longer lasting with oral DMT. As I said, my experience is quite limited, there are many users on this forum who have had profound experiences with vaped/smoked DMT. I'm a big fan of caapi, though others use rue to the same effect.

As far as evil experiences, I have felt imposing forces/presences at times in my most deep experience, but nothing overwhelming personally. Those experiences (not necessarily those parts) usually ended up being my most meaningful. Preparing yourself mentally and physically, and preparing your space can certainly help a lot.

The thing that makes my research so hard on individual case studies...i guess like all individual case studies, there is a huge bias. Totally contradicting stories. Some swear by taking MAOIs with DMT and then some who say it's best to do it alone.

I've almost come to the conclusion that I have to approach this with extreme caution. I'll probably stick to a 15-20mg dose my first time. I feel taking very small benzo dose an hour or two before the dmt will help me deal with a negative trip better should I encounter one. Probably the route I'd end up taking.

I also had plenty of experience with shrooms, cacti and LSD before trying DMT so I'll add my 2 cents here.

First of all, in the last couple of months I've smoked it a dozen times or so and only one time I could say it felt dark. It was clearly some fear and insecurities that I had to face, and still do but it helped me to focus on it a bit better. All the other times were really amazing and blissful.

You surely heard lots of times about "set and setting" already. The main difference is with shrooms you have plenty of time during the come up to make little adjustments in your self and the environment you are in if you feel something isn't right. you won't have all that time in a DMT experience so take your time to prepare in advance.
Personally, I like to focus on my breath for a while sitting in lotus position with comfortable clothes and no shoes. Ambient or relaxing music can help but that's up to your tastes I guess.

Still haven't tried a maoi but I feel it was better to start with shorter trips and now I feel ready to take it further so I'll probably get some soon.

It's a possibility that I'm looking too hard into these negative experiences and reading the worst of the bunch and then expecting that to happen to me.

You may feel like everything in your mind is clean and would not present any kind of troubles when ingesting a psychedelic only to find yourself face to face with your fears and negativities. They come up in such a way that you can almost do battle with them. You may feel like running or fighting. They bring up this fight or flight response in a way that convinces you that it is real.

You can pull yourself out of a difficult psychedelic experience. Everything can change in an instant this way or that. Nothing is set in stone. It is a coin toss to be sure.. however.. I feel like even if you do have a difficult psychedelic trip, you can learn something. So don't go into feeling like I must have a positive experience, rather approach in such a way that you can learn as much as possible. Accept everything that comes in, on the other side of it you may receive revelations about yourself and the universe. These difficult experiences can be very helpful, transformative and provide powerful insights into everything you are.

I've never sang, but I have forced a smile and forced myself to say positive things or suggest positive outlooks based on the current experience. It works very well.

I am not much for singing. I have tried nonsense vocalizations, chants and humming, all of which have a been of use.

Freebase DMT is a short lived experience. I find that I don't even have the time to think about or use these vocal tools. Either I am lost into the experience and don't even know what a vocalization or mouth is, or the experience is so short lived that I don't even have time to think about it. Next thing you know it's over.

In terms of recommendations of using with MAOI, I would suggest starting off without it first just to get a feel for the space and journey. Once you get your bearings then decide if you want a 'trip extender'. The most I've personally done is with 3g of Syrian Rue and I was 'shocked' at how long the peak lasted: 40 minutes! Even though it was a great trip, I won't be doing it again any time soon. Someday...

Whenever I am lucky enough to find time for LSD, I make it a point to do a trip or two of DMT. For me, this combination is truly incredible. The two are hand in glove as far as I'm concerned.

In terms of 'evil'. Encountering evil, IMO, is an opportunity for strength and growth. I went through a series of trips where is encountered these sinister, lovecraftian creatures. Hard to describe, but if you google 'mind flayer' I think the results are pretty close to the things I was exposed to. Always attaching to me and drawing something out. During one trip I asked "What are you?". Something answered "These are inside of you. Pull them out!". I don't know if the Flayers were speaking and telling me that 'we' should pull something unknown out, or if something else was telling me to expel the Flayers out. In any case, I focused my attention on 'cleansing', and I have not seen them since. In addition, I actually feel as though something dark has been scrubbed from my self. I feel lighter. More calm.
