First time Extraction Help

hey there,


im new here on dmt nexus and i was hoping someone could help SWIM out with his first extraction. So far hes acquired:

227grams powdered inner rootbark
about 800mls of ronosal lighter fluid(the only naptha he could get handy)
and plenty of NaoH.

My main question would have to be what ratio of water etc SWIM should use as it seems more should be used with powdered rootbark?

And secondly how much dmt should SWIM expect to yield from this first extraction after doing hopefully 4 extractions with the 800ml of lighter fluid?

SWIM did quite a view STB extractions latelly, and just used the normal amount of water and never had any problems with it. But I'dd use about 4 liters of water, 230 grams of NaHO. And than do pulls with 200 ml. of your Nafta.
I'm sure SWIY. would en up with about aprox. 2.5 grams of spice, even though SWIM. must be getting some superbark from those healers that live in the Amazon, because for him a yield of 1.5% is not uncommon.:roll:
 
I'm very interested in this entire process, but I've never actually done an extraction.

From all the reading I've been doing, it seems like you'd want to add a good 225g or so of NaHo to 3.5L of warm water in a good gallon sized jug. You might even benefit from 250g of lye to counteract any acidic contents in the parent material it's self. The higher the pH, the easier the solvant will form it's own layer too, and NaHO can't exactly get water above a pH of 13.5 or so... So, it's not like you can over basify.

I use Ronsonol in a pinch when I do Salvia extractions, and it's never left any major residue. It leaves an oily coating on the bottom of the evap. dish (if you evaporate enough of it, when I first tried it, I had evaporated roughly 160ml of it straight from the jar) but even that will clear up if you give it about a week of sitting out.

I'd add about 200ml to the entire mixture, and start there.
 
Distillation is a fine way of performing solvent purification, though each solvent may demand different methods. It really depends on which impurity/impurities you wish to remove. In an organic lab, purification typically means removing water residues from a solvent. Water lowers the yield of salt precipitates during recrystallizations, screws up various reactions, etc.

For the home chemist, purification might be to isolate the true solvent from whatever by products are present. For those using lighter fluid, the problem is that the solvent is actually a mixture of many types of hydrocarbons. Im not sure what impurities one might want to remove from this mixture really. The distillation would certainly help to remove any high boiling impurities from the mixture. You might also be able to isolate a minor fraction of "higher purity" spirits from something like lighter fluid, simply by doing a short, lower temp distillation. To do it safely and efficiently however would probably require more glassware/heating apparatus than would be worth it. Probably easier just to obtain hplc/reagent grade solvents. Running a solvent still at home isnt too safe or cheap.
 
Thanks everyone, SWIM decided to get 500 grams of mimosa instead and SWIM also bought 115grams of caapi. I was wondering how SWIM could prepare the caapi for the perfect experience e.g how many grams of caapi etc? also SWIM can't do the freeze precipitation method because the people he lives with would find out what hes up to. Another quick question...how can you store freebase dmt to last and can stored aya be used in the future as well?
 
Will the smell of evporating petrol be any less of a clue than a jar of crystals in the freezer?

As to storing the spice, it ought to be in a cool (or cold) dry place. If you're talking really long-term, you could try to rig up an inert atmospher to store it in.

Caapi varies wildly in potency.
I've had some that took 40g just to get MAO inhibition and some at 20g was so psychedellic that I didn't even get to the mimosa.
Start with 50, shred it fine and simmer it in two changes of water. Some add a bit of acid, I don't and notice no loss of potency and think it's a lot gentler on the stomach.
Take it in three doses - 20, 15, and 15 twenty minutes apart. You probably won't need the last 15.
Once you start to feel the effects and nothing is going horribly wrong, you're ready for the mimosa.
 
yea i suppose thats a good point. well SWIM went for 500grams of mimosa in the end and 115grams of Syrian rue instead of the caapi but SWIM still plans to delve into the world of true Aya in the future. I would love this 500grams of mimosa to last SWIM ages so my main question would be how to store mimosa before any brewing or extraction?...in shredded form will it last SWIM longer time and not be broken down as fast as a brew or crystals perhaps? thanks again!
