First yield, what do you think?

This week I did my first extraction from 50 gram pre powered MHRB.

I was glad to retrieve the white substance from four jars. Three days and nights I kept the yield on a dish to air dry. It took more time than I expected.

The crystals look white and a bit slightly yellow. As I have done the job carefully for me the crystals are ready to smoke. No washing or re crystallization. But then there is of course the weight.

This morning I checked this. It was 280 mg.

As far as I have understood, such a harvest is not bad at all. Or do you have other results? Other opinions?

Now it is time to check out smoking techniques, dosage etc.

Not the worst yeild but I bet you could get another three quarters of a gram out of your extraction. MHRB commonly holds a 2 percent yeild which would be a gram of spice if you have quality bark and good extraction technique.

I just went through the thread ‘Post SWIM’ s Yields’ . Interesting to see how different the yield sizes are.

Will do a second extraction in the weekend.

This is a very low yield. Most yields of out of mhrb lately vary from 1 to 2% with some going even higher depending on tek used and bark quaity.

To me this means that either you did not mix your solvent well enough with the bark mix leaving a big amount of alkaloids in solution, either you did not do enough pulls.

What I would advise you to do is get back to it when you have time and do more pulls, mixing the solvent with the based mix each time for at least a couple of minutes and repeat mixing for at least 4 times..

Yeah nereus is right, that is a really low yield. I wouldn't say that 2 % is the average though, many people struggle to get that high. 1 - 2 % is what you should expect, with 1 % still being a little disappointing imo.

strtman, did you keep the basic sludge? More spice may yet lurk in there. Some other members have reported their 4th pull as yielding the highest, and a 5th also yielding respectably!

Otherwise I'd start to question the quality of the bark with less than 1% yield.

Looking at your other post, some of your yield may have leached out into the coffee filters you used, albeit only a little.

Also, make sure you re-use your naphtha if you can.

I am going to do another extraction based on Noman ‘s tek. For now I prefer to concentrate on this one. We all develop over time so perhaps Cyb’s tek in the future.

But instead of 50 gram pre powered MHRB, the amount is 70 gram. Let ’s see what the yield is.

Beware of changing more than one variable at once! (OK, this could be considered a trivial one, but...)

Never throw anything away until you've finished and got satisfied of your end results! Rule of thumb!

There are several ways to ease up your extraction,like using warm water baths to increase the temperature of the mixture,thing which helps your nps extract more and faster.Another great way is to add NaCl or regular table salt prior to basing the watery bark mix, this will increase the ionic strengths of the alkaloids making them more non polar thus forcing them into the nps much faster.

Nereus, your sentence about the use of NaCl is not clear to me. Can you exemplify this?

Something else. Being accurate by nature I know that I carefully did my extraction.

But suppose that a very, very small amount of basic sludge has gotten into the separated naphtha.

I guess when the DMT crystals are finally dried some molecules of that basic sludge are left in the substance. When I smoke this DMT, is there a change to get these molecules into your lungs? Or will they not evaporate?

Is the smoke from vaporizing DMT always white? If so, can you use this fact as a method of checking out the quality?

There are mixed opinions regarding this subject.Some say that the burning point of base is much higher than what can be reached with a lighter.

I on the other hand would not take the risk and would advise anyone to go the extra mile in cleaning their extract until they feel it is safe to consume.
