Freeze and thaw bark - how long?

Many teks recommend to freeze and thaw bark several times before beginning extractions. How long must one freeze and then how long do you thaw for acacia confusa?

Freezing and thawing makes cells burst, causing its alkaloids to be more easily extracted. you freeze until the water is frozen, and thaw until it is liquid. do it as many times as you want.

Freeze till rock solid. Its called "freeze lysing". Over night works well.

I freeze-thaw bark twice, once after the first acid boil and again after the second. I usually freeze the bark in a big metal bowl so I can dump the big ice-cube-bark-brick right into the pot for the next acid boil. Add some water so you don't burn the bark as it melts.

But it also takes me over a week to do a full extraction. I'm sloooooooooooowwwwwwww.

but.. how?
which part takes more than a matter of minutes?

LOL

Just how it works out for me. I do a full A/B, freeze-thaw between boils, naptha followed by xylene, pull till exhausted, re-x, fumurates.

I like doing small steps over a long time.

How long does it take you from beginning to end?

24 hours to freeze and thaw twice.

then like an hour to do all the pulls and saltings (and a sodium carb. wash).

couple hours to reduce and evap the salting. then like another hour to freebase and evap.

and those are conservative estimates.

the whole process (excepting the freeze) can be done in the span of one day

hehehe,

yeah, I guess I could do it all in a couple days. But it usually happens when I'm on vacation so I like to do other things like eat mushrooms, go the botanical gardens, eat mushrooms at the botanical gardens, tube down a local river, eat mushrooms while tubing down the river.

yes, I love mushrooms :d

wow ! SWIM is trying his very first extraction and really glad to have read this post .. He has only logifolia as source material and will be excited to see if he can get any results :0) this will save some time :)

I always do the freezes for 48hrs with the freezer temp setting as cold as it gets just to make sure its frozen real well.
I actually store my bark a certain way so the first freeze is out of the way when i use it.
What i do is powder 100g, fill a ziplock bag with powdered bark, add 25ml water at a time & mix until it's all wet & stuck together but not liquidy, then close the bag, zip another bag around that one & another one around that one & freeze.
If you have a large supply of bark you can do multiple bags & have them ready to start extracting at any time 😁

Is it okay to freeze already acidified bark?
