Freeze precip - strange resins and white films?

Yo,

swim took a pull from his jars last night and noticed that the naptha was dark brown which he thought seemed odd so he let the solution stand for a while in the glass dish. As he watched a brown ooze formed on the bottom of the glass in a matter of minutes. swim decided to decant the naptha off and dry the ooze to see what it was as it didn't look like basified bark.

The tray went in the freezer and when swim opened it this morning he found a thick layer of crystals looking back at him, HUZZAH!

However there was a thin layer of floppy white film around the dish where the surface of the liquid was in contact with the walls of the dish.

The brown ooze had dried to a squidgy resin overnight and smelled feintly of dmt.

swim has never encountered such badly behaved bark!

does anyone know what to make of the white film and the resin? swim is almost tempted to blaze up the resin as it smells lush but wants to make sure death will not follow!

swim has just scraped up his crystals to find that to his horror they dissolved in a load of orange muck beneath, for fucks sake.....

im leaving it to dry out but tbh it doesnt look like its wet it seems lke its just liquid at this temperature, is this in any way useable?

This is a very weird occurrence as this just happened with swim too. Which tek did swim use?

A couple of things:

Dont throw away the ooze. Let it dry out and then take a shotglass full of fresh solvent that has been sat in really hot water long enough to heat up, and pour it into the container with the dried ooze. The object is to let the solvent absorb the spice and not the ooze. The ooze should turn into a pool of brown at the bottom. Decant the solvent (with no brown in it) into a fresh shotglass or other container(swim likes shotglasses as they freeze quick and cleanout is easy), and freeze.

When you take the glass container out of the freezer, only take it out long enough to pour off the solvent and then put it in the freezer upside down. If this is a food freezer you will want to replace the lid first so you dont expose food to fumes. This step is critical as any solvent left in the spice crystals will melt them when it warms. After letting the solvent drain off for an hour or two, take the container out, uncover and put it on its side facing a fan. Let sit for 2 hrs or until there is no solvent fumes. 2hrs is a minimum for swim.

That ooze should be re-extracted multi[lae times. I just posted a re-extraction tip in this forum that should help reduse the number of re-extracts you need to get things pristine.

Nothing wrong with yellow/light tan spice if you are careful while pulling but swim has been on a mission to get pure white and is getting better at it...

I've been doing STB on powdered bark and have encountered this problem.

4 qt jars, each containing 80g bark powder, 80g NaOH, and (off the top of my head) 700ml water. 2 jars' ~80ml each naphtha were combined that exhibited the typical "piss yellow" color, and the other 2 jars' solvent had an orange/brown color. That was also combined. The first time I had this problem, I put the bark powder in the NaOH/H2O while the latter was still warm. This time I waited, but experienced similar results.

When the solvent jars went into the freezer, they immediately clouded up- a tan color. The 2 half pint jars of solvent (yellow and orange) were then freeze precipitated. The yellow jar yielded nearly a gram of white spice and a small amount of tan/brown solid. The orange solvent yielded tan spice and dark brown solid...maybe 750mg total.

I did a couple hot naphtha washes on the dirty stuff and removed very dark red/brown solid waxy residue...yet the spice is still tan. Weird.

The "waste" residue can be re-worked to pull a bit more tan DMT from it.

Sorry, this isn't the most useful post, but I know it's a problem some of us have encountered, so I thought I'd share my info.

By the way- the dark red/brown substance hardens up into a really solid mass. When a tiny amount is burned on a knife point, it smells absolutely horrible! Ugh! I was thinking of smoking a tiny bit, but the scent is very nasty!

Sounds like Dimensionless' method is worth exploring...

Yeah exact same issue, the tan coloured crap is impossible to get out, or so my house cat told me. He has found something that helped tho, after removing the naptha from the jars he allowed it to stand for an hour or two at room temperature in the evap dish with a cover on it. He noticed a lot of the crap settled on the bottom of the dish. then it was just a simple case of decanting the naptha into another container where it was then free from the tyranny of tan crap and yielded some nice xtals after he put it in the freezer.

This happens to me on my 3rd or 4th naptha pull during STB teks. The naptha goes brownish. I just leave it in a glass for an hour and the brown stuff sinks to the bottom, I then decant the naptha to another glass, and then freeze that, leaving the brown stuff behind. I evap the tiny bit of solvent left behind, scrape up the brown residue and smoke it, its pretty active, and doesn't taste as bad as it smells, its kinda like tangy DMT imo.

I think its just tannins, oils and other crap that gets pulled. Its definitely not Lye solution in my case as I pull my solvents very carefully.
