Why do people do this while freeze precipitating? I hear people say to go from freezer to fridge for few hours then back to freeze.

Not sure why you'd go from the freezer to fridge and back but. When you control the rate of cooling more closely you can control what precips out better.

Most people place their jars in the fridge for a few hours before moving to the freezer to help grow better crystals.

probably easier and less hassle to simply recover the powder from the freezer precipitation, and re-xtal with hexane and slow evaporate in a container with a small air hole over a few days.

I bet this technique would yield some monsters.

Different solvents/cooling/evap speeds result in different shape/size crystals. The idea is to slow the rate of cool when re-x to create bigger crystals. I once read a post about using a neoprene sleeve (beer can insulator) around your evap container to slow the rate of cool (room temp).

Slowing the rate of cool on max saturated solvent (re-x) will have more effect than a freeze precip pull from an extract.
