Fumes are an ever-present problem in all forms of clandestine drug manufacturing, so I think it's about time we figure out how to deal with them once and for all before someone gets raided as a suspected meth cook. My apartment in particular has an oven hood that unfortunately only blows back into the kitchen, and so the only vent out of the house (beside windows) is the bathroom's moisture vent.
My idea is to essentially to run an air hose from this vent in the ceiling down to a plastic tote. The tote would be built as a glove-box (rubber gloves on the inside, and a plexiglass window fixed over a cutout section of the tote) and would have to be tall enough to work with all manners of containers. It would be vice locked to a table with a non-reactive surface and that's only tall enough for one to work with it while sitting (on the toilet if there's no room for a chair). From here one could attach fans or vacuum parts to aide in exhausting the fumes through the hose. One could also outfit the box's inlets with filters to insure air quality and even use zinc dust and/or silica.
Air flow across one's working area could be a problem, so it would probably be a good idea to direct it around the work area within the box. There are likely a number of ways one could shield the work area from air-flow.
