Ahem:?:
We had video games back in the 70's & 80's, just not the high-def, high-tech versions that have been so popular in the last couple decades.
From the Atari units hooked up to our TV, to the arcades filled with the likes of Defender, Asteroids, Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Frogger, etc.
Those of us in our "40s-50s" did grow up with video games, it just wasn't quite the same phenomenon that it has been as of late.:d
Sorry, I should have specified. Yes, gaming existed in the 70s and 80s, but it was a different dynamic...when I was growing up in the 90s, all the kids had a second-hand NES that got passed to them from their dad/brother/cousin/uncle whatever, and the "rich kids" had N64 and PlayStation. When a gaming console is basically a staple of the household, it becomes much easier to lose self control and play until all hours of the night. So when I say "people who grew up with video games," I mean "people who grew up sitting in a dark room with a TV all day, every day," not necessarily people who played at arcades, since that implies a certain level of socializing...maybe. Not to mention that games back in the 70s weren't really as "in-depth" as modern games, so I can't imagine someone spending 12 straight hours playing Pong on Atari - though I've never played an Atari so I can't speak.
