General question re: extractions, future use

Hi Everyone,

I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the extractions thread, but I decided it's more of a general question.

Had my first experience last weekend, wrote about it yesterday. I got some feedback from folks urging me to begin extracting my own spice instead of procuring it elsewhere. While I completely understand the reasoning behind this, and ideally would prefer it that way myself, after reading up about the extraction process I do not believe it's something I can start doing (a. I'm terrible at anything remotely resembling chemistry or scientific processes, and b. my home situation makes this impractible.)

Now I have probably 8-10 trips left in the spice I do have, but for the future, I'm wondering to what extent communities much like this one are accessible outside the internet, and the best ways to go about discovering them. Any suggestions or info would be greatley appreciated!

You will be really amazed if you think how many things you might do everyday that "remotely resemble scientific process" and you do good at them. Thinking by formulating a hypothesis and checking it and arriving to a conclusion validating or discrediting the original hypothesis , is the basis of scientific thinking , a thing that you might be doing already. Maybe you are good or average at using the "scientific process" , if its not labeled as such

In other words,if i get it correctly, your question could be reformulated as "Since i cannot/will not extract it can i find offline communities that do this kind of work so they could more or less give me more spice?" ?

As far as extractions go, you do not have to be a Shulgin or someone with BSc and MSc to do an extraction. Especially for mimosa extractions, they could be likened to baking a cake. My advice would be to save/savor what you have left and resume at a future point where your home situation is better.

Please extract your own, it's really not hard at all (nor is it dangerous if you follow some basic safety protocols). You'd be surprised at how many non-chem oriented people there are here (and in the real world) that have done extractions successfully. Also, please don't ask to be referred to real world "communities like this one" those are the kind of thing that, if you are going to stumble upon one, you will. They are typically not the kind of thing you are granted access to as a result of internet forums and even if they were, you'd have no idea what you could potentially get yourself into by revealing your identity in such a manner.

Thanks, that is helpful advice. I will continue to read and learn about extraction, who knows what the future could bring? Also thanks, Snozzle, for the heads up around asking about communities. I'm just very excited about this discovery and looking to share my experiences!

I´ve seen you other tread where you talked about the impossibility of extracting in your house. I gotta say to you i came back from my vacation one week ago, wilst i was away i let a friend of mine saty in my house, i had two pulls in the freezer and the jar with the basified solution in the food cover, she never even paid any attention to them. It can be that discrete

And for the possibility of somebody knocking on the door wilst you r doing it, STB teks are indeed very quick and very rewarding.

The rest is like everyone says, you really don´t need to be chemist, all you need to do is be able to read and to measure the desiered amounts of lye, MHRB and naphta.

Heh, well i oversimplified, my bad. What i really meant with this oversimplification (that can be taken the wrong way, i assume) is that its not an extensive chemical synthesis, one doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to carry it out nor one needs very rare chemicals. If one can go shopping, measure and mix ingredients,seperate two distinct layers and freeze something then propably he/she can carry it out. The above are in the realm of ability of most people i know plus its not prohibitively labor-intensive.

The above can act as a double-edged sword : i know people doing it that for various reasons i preffer they wouldnt (either they do it for monetary gain or they are so reckless with the procedure and with the finished product that accidents and faces drenched in tears is matter of time to happen).

Extracting DMT is easier than baking a cake IMO.

Cakes require certain tempretures and exact ingredients, DMT extractions are alot more forgiving, mistakes can be corrected.

If you follow the pictures and ratios that Gir lays out (look in the STB extractions forum)- I would say it is - I'm having a grand time baking mine right now!!

In various dishes and containers - all evapping, precipitating, and sitting - to create super nice clean looking spice, as of a few minutes ago a slightly darker looking, and at the end of the weekend, I want something dark and of the ragga jungle spice variety, with lots of other alkaloids in it. YUM.

Definitely worth it - with a lil bit of research, and the chemicals and bark there in front of you, getting on with it is SO easy!

Now that i think about it, i have probably messed up more times baking than extracting.
