Hello fellow traveler's, In a few short week's i'll be knee deep in my first extraction.

I've spent the good majority of the past few days on here researching back and forth and cross referencing and re-checking... And i'll be honest, it's all so new that it's hard to grasp at face value.

I am an ameture chemist, and ameture is really an over-statement, i've had one formal college chemistry lab and that was quite a few years ago.

I guess my real question is, in the opinion of the more experienced, if i'm using an already powdered mimosa hostilis, what tek offers the most straight forward extraction with the most readily available materials?

q21q21's tek 2. Easy to follow. No need for lye (harder to get than lime if you are in a meth plagued area). Good yields.

I'm sure there are plenty of others that are just as good but this is what suits me.

No problem. Whatever tek you do decide to use, just make sure you read it over and over till you have it practically memorized, and if you are new to chemistry, try to get an understanding of why you are doing each step. q21q21 tek 2 does a good job of describing what is actually going on with each step.

Also, there are some resources on this website for learning techniques such as recrystallizing, separating solvents, and many other helpful things. Check out the MIT videos stickied in the General Extractions Help subforum.

Good luck. :)

Q21's tek 1.

Avoids naphtha. Uses D-limonene which can seem slightly harder than naphtha to come by...then again, home depot and sears hardware both sell this

however which is pure (I think) evaps clean and works well anyway.

I'd agree that either of q21's teks are well written for a nonchemist to follow.
