gibran2 tek done with rue

I am in the final stages of extraxting the full scale spectrum harmalas from rue using gibran2 tek.

370 gr of powdered rue was used.
boiled 3 times between 30 and 45 min.

For primary filtrating I used the kind of bags shown in the first pic.
They are really handy in many ways of filtration !!
I have 2, the 220 and the 75 micron sieve.
The line goes from

220 mc
185 mc
70 mc
35 mc
25 mc

Not cheap but it will last "for ever".

THen some cotton filtrating and the 2.5 liter where put in a 3 liter bottle.
Dissolved naoh was added and final PH was 12.6.

Second picture show the result of the first basifying stage.
Water was taken of as much as possible with sucktion and gravity doing its work through a flexible tube.

Oh yeah, I did all with destilled water.
So new water was added all was given a good shake end the solid where coming down again.
But this went very slow.
As you can see on the markings a made on the bottle the solids did not even come half way to the previous marking when I based the solution.
This felt strange. Why would there be less precipitate ?
PH was checked, 12,4, thats fine.
Is it because I shook it was and more of the unwanteds detatched from the precipitate ??

To be shure I saved the liquid from the first decanting, this showd some sediment after a few day and I will find out soon if these are harmalas or not.


I want to go to the cleaning part after the second basification.
I thin I must have decanted the water between 8 and 10 times and all the time taking reading with the ph meter to see how it goes down.
Quickly I decided to put the solids in relativily a lot of water hoping to get the PH down quicker.
When my destilled water was finished it still was about PH 9.3. I did about 7 stages.
I continued with tab water PH 7.9
On the final wash the PH was 8.5

I find it hard to believe you got your PH down between 6 and 7 using the little glass, little water in your tek.
Also three washes doessent seem enough.

I am quite shure I did not use to much lye.
After the sixth wash I decided to put the water harmala mix on my magnetic stirrer thinking this would help clearing out all the base faster.


Anyway I enjoyed using your tek.
The process is not completely finished but I already can show a picture of dried full spectrum rue harmalas.

I measured pH with test strips and tried to get the final rinses “nearly neutral”. Of course, you’re not going to lower the pH to 6 simply by adding distilled water. If the pH was 6, your alkaloids would dissolve in the acidic solution.

The product will be safe as long as most of the NaOH has been removed.

Ah man thats great I never thought of using my bubble bags as filters for anything but bubble hash. now thinking about it its a no brainer

the few times I have used this tek, it takes me about 4 washes to get to ph neutral. Not a problem if you let it settle thoroughly.

from the 370 gr of powdered rue came the intial 5.4 gr and 0.7 gr collected from saved liquid.
This makes a total of 6.1 gr about 1.65 %

Thats not really much of you consider that total harmala contents can be between 2 and 7 % acording to erowid.
Also because with tek some other alkoloids where also extracted.
Still I happy with the result.

I also had some whole seeds of rue, 137 gr.
This resulted in 3.26 gr close to 2.35 %

Whole rue seeds are great for this tek, saves a lot of filtering.

so you got a higher yield from whole seeds, seems odd to me.
(i have no scientific knowledge of these things)

Might be worth trying to pull more from the seeds...see what's still there...did you use acid?

i did 5x1h cook with about 200g seeds and ended up with over 8grams of product, probably not clean harmalas but 300mg did the trick with no nausea.

I believe when I worked with the whole seeds I was more patient.

When washing, after washing it really takes a lot of time for everything to settle, 10 hours or more.
Thats how I got the higher yield i guess.

I acid in both and I let the whole seeds soak in acidified water for a day.
I dont have have the seeds anymore so this is it.

AL rue was on old batch I have had for years not knowing what to do with it, because I have plenty liana tea to drink.
But now these harmalas have found their destiny.

200 mg in my first pharma really did the job.
No nausea but I had some purga work that night

Last couple of weeks I spend some time purifying.
I ran 3 batches and must have repeated the acid/base steps al least 4 times.
All was washed back to a PH between 7 and 8.

In the end I lost quite some harmalas. One batch of 2 gr ended upp being 0.2 gr
Another batch of 2 gr became 1 gr

Looks beautiful NamRa! Clean results with rue are so veary worth the time and effort. I've found that clean up of the wastes (cotton balls, filters, liquids, ect.) will often yeild quite a bit more.
The nice thing about such pure, white, free-base harmalas is that it only takes a ball about the size of a large pin head, smoked, to then be able to smoke some spice slowly (say, as in a cigarette rolled with a few little balls of harmalas fb. in the front half and say, 30mg. of spice laced through-out the whole thing) and get nice phycotropic effects with out haveing to take the full dose all in 30 seconds and get launched into the stratosphere. This experience is much more huasca-like and has been a theraputic breakthrough for myself. None of the purging of a brew nor the terror of straight freebase DMT and without the long-term commitment of an oraly active dose. In this way one can break a trip down to a few minutes at a time with breaks in between or a nice thirty or forty minute experience of greater intensity by smoking it all down at once...don't forget to hold that first toke a good 25 seconds or so...
At such small but active doses of harmine/harmaline the standard contrindications still apply ofcourse, but it is not nearly as serious in consequence if a mistake is made.
