have friends who use both heard glass can break when using lye what do you all think would be all around safer

Yes glass can break that is why you want to use thick glass and do it over something like a sink just in case.
You can also use lab grade borex. Use thick glass!
You do not want to use HDPE2 because endlessness has shown that plasticizers can leach into the naptha and the DMT product which are carcinogenic and should be avoided.

so would you say your average mason jar is safe to use or what should i use?? i want to be one hundred percent safe after a revent accident i heard about from aFOAF

im not trying to sound redundant but a mason jar is safe but i shouldnt store lye in it? can i still freeze evap in a mason jar if i use naptha? safely??

im sure youde be fine with quick extracts, and its not like you will be vaporizing the glass.. ide be more concerned about what effects lye has on a rubber seal of a glass jar.

well how likely is the lye going to breakthe glass never seen it happen but know that i have read abot it i guess you could say i have thefear lol

it's safe for a quick extraction, but don't store very basic liquids in it; silicates will complex with the cations of the dissociated base (the so-called etching)

what about a rubber seal?

rubber is comprised mostly of nonpolar molecules; organic solvents are more destructive to rubber than aqueous base.
