Goo..... its all gone and all that is left is GOO!!!!!

So I posted an extract done by SWIM using the Q21Q21 tek. This extraction yielded a small amount of crystals with a good amount of goo. Swim figured she would deal with the goo issue later and continued to do pulls and added them to the dish. She left the dish full of pulled naptha to set on low heat with a fan blowing on it for 8 hours until all naptha was gone. HOWEVER when she checked on her final product ALL of the crystals were gone and all that was left was a clear goo.... please... please tell me what happened, what the goo is.... and if she can salvage her spice from said goo.

The result looks like a goo because of impurities from the plant (such as plant oils and fats) and/or the reagents and solvents (such as NaOH) used in the extraction. It still contains the DMT however, all you have to do is to clean it. Dirty spice can be cleaned by dissolving a small amount of sodium carbonate in water, dissolving the impure goo in clean naphtha, and then combining these two and mixing. Most of the impurities should then move over to the water+sodium carbonate layer, whereas most of the DMT will stay with the naphtha. Repeat if necessary.

A contribution to avoiding this problem in the future is to not evaporate the solvent, but rather freeze a container with the solvent. As DMT isn't really soluble in freezing cold naphtha, the DMT will crash out of the solution given a few hours, forming crystals on the bottom and the sides of the glass. The glass is then scraped, and the contents are poured out through a coffee filter. This way the crystals stay in the filter and the naphtha can be reused. Note however that the naphtha now contains impurities, so you can't reuse it indefinitely.

The reasoning behind this is partly because naphtha does indeed pull some impurities that will stay with the solvent even when it's freezing, and partly because it is much more economically and environmental friendly. Recrystallization may also be a good idea if the DMT still looks impure. For more information, search our forums and our wiki.

Strangest thing... so swim was going to try some last night... there was a small amount crystallized on the side of the contain so she scraped it up. She than figured... no I'm just going to bed so she dumped the scrapings into the goo.. when she woke up this morning all of the goo turned solid white...

scrape/spread and leave for longer and more should crystallize/harden up. Also you can do a re-x and you'll get crystals.

Couldn't this be n-oxide?
Is it oily?

If it's n-oxide then it might be hard or impossible to crystalize. I'd then dissolve it in IPA and infuse some mint leaves or parsley or something like that. Smokes and works fine like that.

If by chance it is Oxide would SWIM be able to disolve in IPA and then add some zinc powder to the solution to convert from the oxide

I'm probably going to be flamed for saying this but gooey dmt is still dmt. My first extract was yellowy goo. SWIM tried freezing it, SWIM tried evaporating it, but it always melted back into goo. Eventually SWIM gave up and just used a razor to wipe some onto the bottom of a pipe screen and put it into a bowl with a little bud on top. Worked perfectly fine
