is there a way to steralize the jars without a pressure cooker? those are expensive, i saw that you can steam/boil the jars but i need a tek for that.
You can get away with steam cooking only on small PF tek (brown rice) jars, but definitely not on grains.
Grain is full of mold and you need to exterminate 99+% of it, otherwise a tiniest contamination will quickly overgrow mycelium.
A heavy duty pressure cooker is an absolute must. You can buy a used All American or similar good PC which will last you a long time.
I once tried to do
tyndallization, which is an old method that uses only heat, not pressure, but it takes several days to perform and I guess it is impractical or impossible to do for sterilising grains.
Please do a few batches of growing and you will soon see how important sterility is. I tried cutting corners here are there and it always resulted in at least 1/4 of the grain to be contaminated by mold.
